Fantasy. There is an infinite staircase between worlds with a guardian

I cannot remember when i read this book or any names. I can remember the main character was hiding from someone using this stairwell that was a neutral zone and enforced by this guardian.

At some point the main character ends up in a world with incubus and sucubus. 3 succubi great the main character.


I also vaguely remember the guardian of the stairwell appearing as what the person feared most and for someone this was a dragon.

That is all i can remember.
