I'm sorry this is literally the only thing I remember. There was this creepy animal creature that made a horrible ai ai noise, so the characters called it ai-ai and it was evil I think. Book in English, read it around 2010-2015 (elementary or middle school aged), felt fairly modern.

It wasn't Redwall, I'm pretty sure there were human characters.
Did it make the noise all the time, or when it ws scared, or...? what made it horrible? can you recall anything else at all, like was it large or small , wild or a pet, durry or hairless, etc?
