Review: Rosalind James has written a beautiful thoughtful story about a hot talented NZ rugby player, Luka, and an American workaholic neurosurgeon, Elizabeth. It’s quite a long book, but it lends itself well to a lovely nuanced slow burn romance. RJ’s writing effortlessly shows us the growth in E&L's relationship - from irritation & frustration to appreciation, respect & friendship...and with time, awareness of their strong feelings for one another. I think what I liked the most was watching Elizabeth go from living a straight laced, linear existence to one that included enjoying the world around her, the sensuousness of clothing (beyond black slack & white blouse), connections with new people, and the love of a good man. And I should add that Luka is hot hot hot & Elizabeth was no slouch in enjoying that. 🔥🔥🔥 Would have been 5★ but...more editing please.

Review: I liked this book, but it isn't going to be a reread for me. I definitely will be reading the rest of the series. Grant, the main character is absolutely a sweetheart and has to be the most patient man on the face of the planet. Ana, his heroine, was written as a softer strong woman than I typically read. She was coming out of an abusive relationship which understandably leaves a person reeling, second guessing their worth and their choices and their emotions. She and Grant did have a great emotional pull, yet she kept pushing him away. She knew it was hurting him, but he kept letting her do it as he "understood" where she was coming from with it. Yes, the topic was handled well and in a realistic manner. I would have liked to have seen a bit more a hustle from that recovering Ana and see her support group push her to find a good medical person to talk to. I think that would be played as a better plot point than the surprise pregnancy the author went with. It wasn't a bad book at all. It just wasn't the book I wanted for these two. I had read a few reviews for this book before diving in and was waiting for this great and amazing read and all I wanted to do was scream at Ana to find a therapist, keep taking the healthy steps she was taking, but stop pushing Grant away because he was doing all the right things too.
Absolutely going to read the rest of the series. Especially as I apparently own most of them...which was a surprise to me 😆

Review: Cadeon Woede is a demon and Holly Ashwin a Valkyrie/Human (totally unbeknownst to anyone).
Cade met Holly a year before the events of this book and realized that she was his fated mate. Thinking her human he knew he couldn't be with her, so he watched over her from the shadows instead.
On his way to check on her, he gets a call about the whereabouts of the vessel, that they (he and his brother) need to procure to get the weapon to kill their enemy, and who do you think this vessel is.
*I love the way we all, the reader and Cade, find out who the vessel is. Very clever of Ms. Cole
Anyway, Cade and Holly go on this journey, with Holly at this point realizing her true heritage. Holly thinking she has a chance to turn back to how she used to be, Cade determined to get the weapon mentioned above.
Along this journey the encounter several obstacles, but it also gives Holly a chance to fall in love with Cade.
I don't know if its because I haven't read the series in a while or what, but Kresley Cole lit my fire with the sex scenes she wrote for these two. They were sensual and full of heat even when there was no penetrative sex.

Looks like you really liked this one! I liked the books in this series as well.
Okay then, I'll send all of our completions to Kat. See what comes next!

Task 9 - 49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.
As a team select a month and year, then each teammate reads a book initially published in that month and year. Make sure you use the initial publication date. If there is a date at the top of the editions page, use it. Otherwise, I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format for the qualification. Please include the selected month/year combo in your completion posts.

*Kat adds info above about how to establish the date

That said - I've read a lot of Alley's back catalogue so if we need to change for any reason that is absolutely fine.
To find books for a month and year I usually search Listopia for the month and year I need and add in "Most Anticipated Romance" and work from that list.
I'll be up for awhile tonight as I entered a judged writing contest with a friend. Our first writing prompt is about to be assigned, as well as all the rules and regs. I have to write a 250 word story by midnight tomorrow and turn it in for judging by midnight EST tomorrow.
I'm suddenly highly regretting this decision of mine.

Meghan Quinn's The Change Up came out that month and year. Maddox killed me more than any of her other towel brigade baseball guys. I'm scrolling through the June 2020 Highly Anticipated list to see what dropped and there are a lot of good ones on there.

It's written and I'm forcing my family and friends into beta reading it for me. I had to write a comedy about calling a hotline and had to use the word "form". I wrote about a soccer mom calling Gamblers Anonymous asking for help understanding what goal differential is in the Premier League, but she doesn't let the operator get a word in.
Most of our friends aren't as soccer mad as our family is, and my extended family are NOT soccer fans, so if they can find it amusing and relatable - it's being submitted. If not, then I have 4 hours to create and write something new. LOL

That sounds SO good! hilarious!
My husband did some buddy short story writing with a friend over the winter, based a program in Songwriting Without Boundaries: Lyric Writing Exercises for Finding Your Voice (for any kind of writing). He would write in the morning & read me some zingers after my coffee (my sacred time). Method was one word & 3 min of writing, new word 5 min, last word 15 min. Best stories were the 3 minuter ones. Point was to break down perfectionism, insecurities...those feelings that you can't do it. Also other layers were involved like bringing in the senses. Great stuff.

That one sounds cool as well!
I need to start entering more of these and getting back into the writing mode. I just hit Submit so that at least my first final run is submitted. If my betas come back with anything that nixes it, I have some time to come up with something new - such as writing a new story for a fast paced, international, micro fiction contest, based on your friend's texts and your husband overanalyzing your original comedy piece to the point where it isn't funny anymore LOL

Review: This was a decent enemies to lovers. I didn't really get why Ford didn't care for Jolee (love her name btw) except for her being the "new" girl and not taking his crap. I enjoyed her so much. She had a heart of gold. Ford had a troubled past so it bled into his life in all aspects. He wanted to torment her and cause her problems in class and out, but one hot and naughty kiss as enemies turned into so much more. It happened fast too, but I understand since it was pretty short book. I wish she would have made him grovel a bit more. He deserved to do that at least. Not sure I'll continue with the series.

Review: The title goes to what frame of mind our hero may have been in for a part of the book. Finn was jilted at the altar by his fiancée, for one of his teammates. The bride to be who happened to be the owner's daughter. That could have definitely turned out horribly all the way around.
What if she was a spoiled princess her father wanted to please and she never wanted to see Finn again and then with this person he's supposed to trust to do his job. I don't know much about sports, but I always picture the guys having a relationship like a brotherhood. Well, that illusion was shattered with this story.
Anyway, Adele is the sister of Chance, of Cocky Bastard fame. I didn't realize until I went back and looked at my review that that was the least favorite for my that wonderful writing duo.
But I digress, Adele is a recovering addict. I love that that was included in a romance because it already gives the heroine a kickass vibe because she's fighting daily for the life she wants instead of taking the easy way out of unpleasant situations that life brings.
These two are attracted to one another from the beginning, but as they spend time together they both realize there could be more. There are obstacles in the way (people and circumstances), but I love have Finn was so unafraid to put himself out there after everything he'd already been through.

Thanks Maggie. Stomach flu last 4 days - almost well. Though today, we had to close up the cottage for good until 2022. Draining pipes & plumbing, chucking leaves from eavestroughs, tucking everything away in garbage bags- those mice are quite assertive, clean, clean. So now at home eating a lovely shawarma platter c/o ubereats. Nice to be home.

Review: Noelle Adams was recommended to me by an Aussie friend who is on the same quest to find to CRs that are refreshing, natural, intelligent, and often not that well known. And Adams certainly can write very well in that style, as well as create fantastic MMCs who are sexy, experienced, attentive & can hold the moment in a story.
This book is a second chance story about sexy Sheriff Harley and Madeline, the town librarian. Reading the first chapters, I see all that I'm in good shape, especially with the scene where the sheriff stops Madeline, town librarian, for speeding. A great scene with understated chemistry. Alas, a few more chapters in, the writing falls flat, looks rushed...and sadly this was not to be one of NA's gems. But the first chapters were good. LOL

Review: This has to be one of my favorites of Alley's works. I was a little disappointed that I was able to figure out the bad guy was pretty early on however the rest of the book more than made up for that. The play of the plot line and story was amazing. I wound up downloading the next book in the series about half way through this one as it's Ryan's story (ex boyfriend of the main character in Dirty). Ryan and Maddey (MC) are still besties, but he's stuck on the sidelines in this story watching her being stalked by a crazy creeper and falling in love with her childhood best friend (Dex) whom she was originally in love with in the first book of this entire series when she started DATING Ryan. Yeah. It's hard to follow - but worth it. It's also the first book of Alley's where I had to create a character spreadsheet/series bible as Alley managed to squeeze all but ONE of her her worlds into this book - but to top that crazy feat - she also looped in the Pippaverse, the Sharks, the Reapers, Maria's Blades, I halfway sort of expected Maria's British spy guys to come crashing in to help the Die Hard Trilogy to identify and take out the target for Dex, Madz and the Die Hard Trilogy. I swear Alley also wrote in like four more Covenettes, two more mini Covens, and Sean, Mav and Carlee had BETTER have their own books at some time....AFTER she finishes out UofJ...SEE this is actually how the book flows. On top of all the plot of Madz and Dex fighting and falling in love with each other, and Ryan and Sammy fighting over Bestie status, and trying to keep all the Covenettes and the different atheltes straight, and who the Lost Boys are vs the Blizzards, vs the MMA, and the Stones vs the Steeles vs which books that Maddey is writing are Alley's vs Maria's vs someone else's.
I wound up highlighting this book more than I have ever highlighted any book before - this includes my Psych and Chem textbooks in college. I also did something with this book that I have never ever ever done before.
I left notes in Kindle.
I have never in my life - not even as a reviewer - left notes on my highlights. I left a note for my MOM knowing that she will find it. Letting her know that she needs to up her sibling group nickname game as Alley has clearly done a better job than she has.
Anyway - in short this book covers all of the romance troupes, breaks the fourth and the fifth walls (as they say in theater), keeps the pace at high speed with little to no slow down, and manages to write in a crazy creeper which I will admit I pinned as the "bad guy" right away as he was the only newer face in the crazy crowd but one I also kept double guessing because of how he was accepted into the crazy crowd.
THIS is my fave BTU book. At least until I read Scoring Beauty (Ryan's) then....I'll allow them to hold the top platform spot together. Ryan needs the most epic of happy endings after what Alley has written him through in the last few books.

Sorry to be so late on my submission. We had real life blow up in a big way in our faces late last night. We are all fine, but we are working through a very complicated issue with our school district that goes back over a few years and concerns both of our kids. I'm still here though and very much still in this challenge!

Ooh this is on my tbr. Looking forward to your review. This is such a fun series!

M - I forgot to go back and finish West and Blue's Trilogy. I read Pretty Boy D over the summer - which ripped my heart up a bit, then followed it up the next day with Burn it Down by Julia Wolf which DID tear my heart up and left me sobbing on a public beach on a clear blue day 🤣
Thankfully the friends we were with knew I was ARC reading that week and just keep telling the other families on the beach that "She's fine. She reviews romance novels. One of her authors did something to hurt her." 🤣🤣🤣
I'm hoping Sterling's story comes out sooner rather than later.
ShanA I need to get back into Teagan's work. I got swamped with other books from the firm she used to work through. I'm still stuck on the emotional support turtle from the first book in that series!

Julia knows what she did. She received shouty caps from me. 🤣🤣
Over the last year, my friends have gotten very used to me talking about characters as if they are real people. In a few instances I've sucked my friends into my worlds.
My husband and one of my besties' husbands actually engaged in a conversation with us regarding the Thrusters - and about 3/4s of the way through my husband looks at me and asks "Are we talking about people who live in Pippa's head?!"
I told him we loved him just for knowing that the Thrusters were Pippa's 🤣🤣🤣
