Review: Although this story is told from only Magnolia and Brody's POV, Robert is very much a part of this story. I had conflicted feelings about this story. On the one hand I felt as though I could sympathize with Magnolia for what she was going through in her personal life, but on the other I was like girl WTF!!

Living in a small town can be like a double edged sword. The things that make it nice can also be the thing that make it a living hell, and in this book Magnolia is basically living the hell portion.

I couldn't figure out how in the heck she has went all these years without getting a paternity test with the one man that was available, regardless of what anyone else thought. It doesn't make sense to me, since he is around and one of the only people that don't treat her like crap.

IMO it was just a plot device to create unneeded angst. There was enough other stuff going on with it.

In this book Magnolia is coming off as a girl who lies, most times for no reason, and is naive. A girl who uses and is being used (that whole situation with her and Robert screamed RED FLAG), and a new mother who is trying to do the best she can in a bad situation, even though some of the problems she helped create.

At this point I live Brody, which I think the author wanted, but I didn't like how he first said, "I don't want to hear the town gossip" then changing his tune when he wasn't man enough to speak up and just ask Magnolia WTF is going on.

Robert was introduced in a way that makes it hard to like him, and from their initial exchange he came off as someone that was using the fact that Magnolia needed him to get what he wanted. Very skeezy. I did get the impression that it may be more to him than meets the eye, but he doesn't assert himself until his position in Mags life is being challenged.

I met Willow this weekend and talked to her about this book! I'd read it because Sutton Bishop had used the same photo on a book and I love the image. Hope you enjoy the read Shan!

Last Task. Read books with more than one person on the cover.
One Enchanted Moment by Sarah Morgan
One Enchanted Moment (Puffin Island, #3) by Sarah Morgan
Qualifies: Has two people on the book cover
Page Count: Kindle Edition, 368 pages
Completion Date: Nov 17/21
Rating: 3.5⭐
Review: I wanted to read this book because Sarah Morgan had written a delicious CR, Moonlight Over Manhattan, and I was hoping this one would be as good.
But alas - not the same writing quality.
This is a story about jewellery/artist Skylar and British history professor Alec. In the past when they see their mutual friends, he's been disdainful of the wealthy "fairy princess". And she's been keeping her distance.
At her London exhibit, Skylar's boyfriend does douche canoe things to her & she ends up being concussed. Alec finds her & helps since she has no one in London. Their adventure takes them to his apartment, followed by visiting his family in the country & finally, to his cabin on Puffin Island in Maine. Yup, by now they're sleeping together - "oh, this is just about sex". Huh! Well that kind of thinking doesn't work out too well. They're getting a deeper understanding of each other, falling in love...and then HEA.
What did I like? Great characters, art world, London, Cotswold, Puffin Island, island living, sensual bed scenes. What I liked the most though was Skylar - a fascinating & interesting character, who brings us into her creative world developing her artwork.

Review: This book was exactly what I needed today. It was the perfect blend of bite, sass, broken heroine, and hero who is working blindly. Nadia Lee definitely also has her very own brand of rom com and ;adds in laughs when they are needed the most. Not going to lie - if I had found a snake in my house, I would have run over to Killian's house and demanded he burn the sucker to the ground for me so that I KNEW that little slithery sucker was gone. I really enjoyed Emily and Kilian's story. The idea of two creatives with vastly different personalities and career needs really appealed to me. I am very much on the Killian and Dev scale of "extrovert" I need people. Working in public and being able to see humans helps my creative process. Emily's hermit like habits are a little harder for me to understand. I have stretches of time where I can become like her, where I'm deep into the hyper focus of a project and need to keep to my house, close out the world, and just focus, but I can't let it go on beyond a few weeks. After that anxiety creeps in and I need see actual real people. I was also a little nervous about how the blow up in Emily and Killian's relationship would happen. The reader knows all of Emily's deepest fears, triggers, and feelings. Nadia kept Killian's deepest fears a little closer to her vest. His POV chapters read as a creative blocked rock star who needed a long reset from being burnt out and some solid grieving time. But he has some deep fears in there as well. Killian has been used for the wrong reasons a lot of his life. I was worried that when Emily ran it would break him too much and hurt too much. The ending was perfect though. For all that I wanted a really light fluffy read, I loved the fact that this book presented as if it were going to be a light fun romp with little beyond a frustrated romance writer and a cranky brunt out rock star but that was just the exterior wrapping of the story.
I keep forgetting how much I love Nadia's books and how she makes such fun light blurbs into really deep and intense reads in some ways.
I need to go check to see if the rest of Axelrod has books now. I want to read about Dev's comeuppance.
