~KarenH~ | 11359 comments I've got a little less than 3 hours of listening time left on mine. I knew I had until tomorrow morning at the earliest to get through it and figured I'd have a good amount of listening time, so picked the longest book on my M&G. It's over 16 hours, even with the speed increased to 1.25x.

Courtney | 2931 comments OMG. Two ex-Navy SEALS and an ex-Army Ranger, and the dudes freaking leave the safe house in the middle of a stake out to take the heroine out for a beer, and they don't think about returning until the next morning?! What kind of crappy military training did these guys get. (Of course, the heroine gets kidnapped...🤦🏽‍♀️)

I'm almost done, about 50 pages left.

20. Read 4 books 300 pages or longer.

Three Alpha Romeo by Krista Wolf
Three Alpha Romeo

Pages: 369
Completed: 10/9
How it Qualifies: Page count over 300

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review:

This was just as steamy as you'd expect a Krista Wolf to be, but the story just didn't come together for me like it normally does. I'm usually not a big fan of suspense/military-type romances, so it might be more of a "It's not you; It's me" thing, but some of this was a bit to silly to work for me. The things they did, and how everyone in the crime organization magically hated the evil boss man that they were trying to kill ....

description

I also didn't like the addition of Marcus's fiancée dying and making Andrea a dead ringer for her. That plot point always makes me feel a bit weird, but it might just be me.

Anyway, for smut, it's just as good as any of the author's other books, but I wasn't really feeling the characters or relationships and the story was a bit too over-the-top for me.

Please correct to the first edition Kindle page count (482). Thanks!

MountainKat | 31684 comments Since I'm not waiting for corrections - yet, here is your next task!

Task 10 - 12. Read a book recommended to you by a teammate - no pass for this task.

You can do the recommendations however you wish - to the group, to each individual, to the person below you on the list or ?? - it's up to you. If you want to provide a specific shelf to pick from, it needs to have a minimum of 10 books on it. Please include a link to the message with the recommendations in your completion posts.

message 260: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments Ok, just verifying before I start reading...this is the task where we use the recommendation lists we did when we were setting up, right?

message 261: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Yes, I think so. We have that one for kind of double-duty because there's another task that specifies 5 books. Should we do 10 book ones for this or is everyone OK with the lists we already have?

List of links

message 262: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments I think we're good just using the lists we have. Right now I'm having an issue deciding on anything...nothing sounds good to me. And not just nothing on those lists, but nothing at all. I think I'm just going to go through the lists and the first book I can find that I can get from the library in audio will be the one! Once I get started on something I'll be fine, I'm just in a decision-making funk today!

message 263: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Yeah, I'm feeling the same. I think it's because I've had too many 2 and 3 star books in a row. It's hard to excited when you've had a string of disappointing reads. 😔

I think my problem is actually just the opposite. In between my challenge books (when I have a little time between finishing my last book and when the next task is announced) I'm rereading the Outlander series. I'm really enjoying that, so have trouble picking what comes next if there isn't something obvious calling to me.

I read the first three in that series, and I just couldn't take it anymore. I swear every single horrible awful thing has to happen to every character in there. I read a lot of dark stuff, but those were too intense for me.

lol. i had this one picked out before the challenge started. When i saw Karen's rec list, i knew i would be reading that one.

It was so good. i wanted it to keep going. After it was done, i looked to see if this was book 1. But alas, this is not a series 😥

It was roughly 5 hours.

I hope nobody feels the need to rush. please don't speed through your books. I was just eager. I ran to audible when I saw the call. I didn't even check the rec lists. i'm so glad Karen didn't make any last minute changes 😂

I really wanted to like this because I love Pride and Prejudice and the Bachelor, but I just could not enjoy this heroine. She was so judgmental of everyone. I really couldn't handle how she treated the hero from the beginning when he was really nothing but nice to her. It was just too off-putting.

YAY! I'm so glad you liked it. It's a good series. I hope you continue with it. I'm only up to book 4, but so far so good.

This is not a book I picked up on my own. The scythe on the cover scared me. Karen and I discussed this book during a challenge and I'm so glad I decided to read it.

Ugh that sucks, Courtney. I saw this audio available at my library. I like pride and prejudice too so I was going to place it on hold. But i don't know if I want to read it now if you rated it 1 star 😥

You might still like it! I liked the idea, I just found the heroine to be such a downer. I have a hard time with books that have a lot of "other women" bashing, and it just felt excessive for me. In the first mingle scene, Emma is judging women by their breasts and their fake tans and clothes, things like that, before they even talk to each other. It just rubs me wrong.

Task 11 - 40. Read 6 books with over 500 reviews.

Courtney | 2931 comments Oh, yay! I'm going to do Assumption (Underground Kings, #1) by Aurora Rose Reynolds . I had a short list of books for PTP and was hoping I could double up, and it fits for both!

message 283: by Chan (last edited Oct 11, 2021 10:03AM) (new)

Chan | 5093 comments Ooh I hope you like that one. Unless ARR made updates, I remember there being some editing issues, but I still liked the story.

I just looked at my review...i read this in 2016. my gosh, it doesn't seem like i read it that long ago.

Chan | 5093 comments I'm going with this one

Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case (Jayne Frost, #1) by Kristen Painter

message 285: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11359 comments I'm starting with Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) by J.R. Ward since it's on my M&G shelf and also works for PtP (using option 2...doesn't fit the actual task). I also have a short one (barely 200 pages) that I can read after that, but my first one is pretty long. It's a reread though, so should be able to speed it up a little more than I usually do and should be able to finish both by tomorrow night (SHOULD being the operative word here...)

message 286: by Chan (new)

Karen, let's both of us check in with each other after we finish our first book. I'll let you know when I finish and if I don't see a post from you, then I'll start the second one. Same for you; if you don't see a post from me then go ahead and start your second one and I won't read my second one.

I’m sorry Courtney. I hate that you didn’t like it. I do remember her being standoffish in the beginning. I wrote it off because of her agenda in the beginning. I honestly can’t remember everything, but that I laughed a lot while I read it. But I also didn’t listen to it so maybe the audio comes off differently.

message 291: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments It's ok. I'm not sure how the audio book would be. I actually never do audio books. I tried one once, but I find them so hard to follow. I need to see the words 🤣.

I think of she had treated Sebastian nicer in the beginning...like treated him like a friend because she wasn't interested in the dating aspect and just wanted to promote her brand, then I would have liked it more. But all the snob and stick up the butt stuff really got on my nerves because he was always seemed nice to her. Even his little funny bits like pretending her notes were love letters on camera were harmless, cute fun, but she got so mad about them! I thought it was weird. I wanted her to play along more and just have fun.

I'm thinking it still hasn't been edited. I just had a super weird chapter where they're at a shop buying bedding, and then in the next line, Kenton is waking her up at home after apparently going to Vegas again? I was so confused. I reread the page like 5 times, and just had to move on because I couldn't figure out how that happened.
