Ok, now I REALLY feel like an idiot! When I said the first book I read didn't qualify, I was still thinking of the previous task (published in the last year)...it did qualify for the current task. Yikes, my brain needs help these days!!!

I'm going to add Fakers. You, Jane, Kat and Aiswrya rated it 4 stars and above.

I've liked everything I've read by her, and that one just might be my favorite. Still wavering between 4 and 5 stars, and not sure why...I think I need to go bump it up to 5.

Review:

I read Dark Fancy years ago, and I honestly never intended to come back to the series. That one fell a bit flat for me. I didn't like the characters, didn't like the story. So I figured the rest of the series would be the same.

This book was just stellar. It had a completely different feel from the first. The MCs were wonderful and their relationship building was spot on. There are so many great moments in here. Sure, lots of steam, but also cute, funny bits between the MCs. The plot was well done and actual interesting things happened.
Super enjoyed it. So glad I came back and tried again. Will definitely continue with the series now. I have to know what happens to Violet!

Gave me time to read something else! I felt weird using the other one because I wasn't sure if it was actually 150 pages or not.
Hey everyone, I'm going to be away from my computer for a while today...hopefully not too long, but things never seem to work out as planned! Anyway, if Kat gives us our next task and it's something that requires a decision, don't wait on me - I can work with just about anything!
Courtney wrote: "🤣🤣 No worries. Gave me time to read something else! I felt weird using the other one because I wasn't sure if it was actually 150 pages or not. "You could have used the other book. Just letting you know to avoid future confusion. 😊
And Karen really had me confused when she mentioned date - I was thinking 'did I add a date requirement I didn't write down?!' 😳🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Here is your next task!Task 5 - 4. Read 4 books tagged/shelved as PNR or fantasy.

Maybe i'll get to reread the whole series 😁I originally thought the story had a clinical tone, but i realized this time around, it's not the story, it's the narrator. She sounds stilted at times.
MountainKat wrote: "You could have used the other book. Just letting you know to avoid future confusion. 😊."Ok, cool. At least both books were good, so didn't mind the extra read! 😄
Something must be going on with my phone or something. I swear I've been checking this thread all morning, and none of the posts past mine were showing up until right now.
I'm about halfway done with mine. I'm a bit disappointed. Zoey Ellis is usually a slam dunk for me but this story is draaaaaagggging. I'm having a hard time staying interested. Nothing happens for a long time, and then something random happens with no build up. Feels like a rough draft.

It's hard to stick with those kind of books. when there are long parts that drag, my mind tends to wander to other things then I have to go back and relisten to that section.

Well, that was disappointing.
Zoey Ellis is normally a slam dunk for me. She's one of my favorite dark fantasy/omegaverse authors, but I honestly just don't know what was up with this book. It felt so unlike anything the author has done before.
First, there is just no chemistry at all between these characters. There's essentially no relationship building at all, and the few sex scenes mixed in feel abrupt, unnecessary, and perfunctory. Where is the heat, where is the tension? This was just ..... nothing.
The storyline was odd and didn't seem to have much purpose. The focus wasn't on the MCs, but rather Oshali talking about becoming a guardian, but not wanting to be a guardian, and wanting to wear a magical gown and then not wanting to have it so she could be free. And then wishing she could be with Tyomar and then not believing she could be his mate, but when she finally believes it, not wanting to be with him anymore.

And throughout the entire book, everyone keeps saying how great and powerful and amazing Oshali is, but there's just nothing showing that to be true. She's mostly whiny and annoying, and she has a really hard time making decisions. Just lots of telling rather than showing in this book, which is really unusual for Ellis.
The story is just so boring, and the amount of errors in this is just too hard to ignore. It desperately needs another round of editing. And the use of "squelch" and "squishy" during sexy times?
Here is your next task!Task 6 - 28. Each teammate reads a book from a teammate's to-read shelf, no pass for this task.
Everyone picks a book off a teammate's 'to-read' shelf, or variation of that shelf such as 'read-next'. You can choose any teammate's shelf to select your book. Please include a link to the teammate's to-read shelf in your completion posts.
Ya know what...I take back my apology 😂All three of your shelves are almost double mine. My to-read shelf should be easy to breeze through for you three.
I'm probably really late with learning this, but i found a neat tool on GR that allows me to view the to-read books of my shelf and your shelf that we have in common. it made it so much easier for me to pick a book from Karen's to-read shelf that was also on my to-read shelf. It also will complete an MnG books 😀I'm reading Gabriel's Rapture

🤣🤣 Yeah, yours is tiny compared to mine!
I'm doing
off of Karen's.
Wow, I'm amazed you both found something you want to read on my shelf! While it's huge, I've gotten really lazy over the last few years and haven't added much of anything new to it. I've always used it for books I actually own and my wishlist for things I want to read but down own. Lately everything has just been going on the wishlist...I found one book on Courtney's to read shelf and 2 on Liz's that are on my M&G list, so I'm going to wait to decide until the PtP theme is announced later today to see if I can triple-team it - three challenges with one book!
Chan wrote: "Wish list? did you create that shelf?"I created a wishlist shelf on GR...it's an exclusive shelf like the "read" and "to read" shelves, and that's where I dump anything I see that interests me enough to make a note of it. Unfortunately I never remember to move them to my "to read" shelf if I actually acquire them!
I found books on all 3 shelves. I think I’m going with 1 on Courtney's
since my library has the audiobook. 😀
wow...if you combine the 2, Karen, your to-read shelf is almost at 2000 books. LOL that's a bit frightening. When i was searching your shelves, it was so interesting to see books in your to-read shelf back from 2011.
~KarenH~ wrote: "Wow, I'm amazed you both found something you want to read on my shelf! I thrive on chaos!
This book is ending too soon. i want it to keep going. It's so good. Maybe i'll slow the speed to .7 😄
Elizabeth wrote: "I found books on all 3 shelves. I think I’m going with 1 on Courtney's

This started really strong for me. All of the characters felt different and distinct and heat level was off the charts.
But then, it just kind of faded. I think Rachel was just too wishy-washy about the relationship and her frequent self-deprecating comments got old fast. The momentum was just gone as soon as she left the ranch, and it never really came back. What really just ruined this for me was the ending. I think having Rachel come to her senses on her own would have made the relationship and story feel stronger. Giving her an excuse to return just makes it feel like maybe she didn't really want to and wouldn't have if she didn't feel like she had to. It just ended kind of weak and meh for me.
I really liked the author's writing style, though, and if Rachel had been a bit stronger, this would have probably been a 5-star book for me, so I'll definitely try the next book in the series.

Sooo...i just watched the trailer for Gabriel's inferno (book 1) and it seemed so corny. 😂 That book was soooo frickin good though.Passionflix has a movie for all three books, but I better read all of the books before i even watch the first movie.
Does anyone have a passionflix account? is it worth it? are the movies good?

I've seen two of their movies. Trouble with Mistletoe and Hollywood Dirt. There is definitely a big corny factor in these movies 🤣. They're not terrible, but very clearly small budget with B list actors. I actually watched Hollywood Dirt because I loved Emma Rigby in that Once Upon a Time in Wonderland show, but even she couldn't stop the cheesiness, so that might be the ascetic they're going for. The lead men are generally not as good actors as the women IMO, which might be the problem.
