There was a communication break down between mother and daughter. Sheila needed to be needed so helping Drummond in his work fulfilled that need. Not sure why she didn't communicate this with her daughter maybe there was hurt there and it just seemed easier not to deal with it. It seems cruel but thankfully they reconciled by the end
I thought Sheila was protecting her daughter. If Jake found out that she was helping Drummond, he may have gone after her daughter. They both regretted not communicating. I'm glad they had a second chance.
I thought Sheila and her daughter were both hurting by the other's actions. But now that Sharon has mentioned it, it would have been very dangerous for Sheila to contact Josie. Jake Blake would not want Sheila contacting people on the outside on a regular basis.
I agree that it would have been risky for Sheila to contact her daughter directly but it seems she could have gotten Kane to let Josie know she was alive and well. Maybe Sheila was coping with her grief the best way she knew how, leaving her daughter alone after their last bitter encounter. But, I still thought it was wrong.
I think the argument she had with her daughter made her believe that she had no chance at a reconciliation with her, so she decided to find some way to help someone else. Her daughter indicated that her mother couldn't survive unless she found a way to help others.
