At this point, I think they are protecting their other daughter from something. Myles Brown made that mysterious phone call to someone.. to announce that Samantha was dead. I think he was warning his other daughter to continue to lie low. Maybe they busted Samantha out of the cult? Maybe against her will? What we know at this point it looks this way. I'm not thinking they directly killed their daughter but maybe tragically their actions contributed.
I was all over the place when Myles made that phone call. At first I thought he was calling someone associated with the cult. Then I thought he was involved in the murder so way, and contacting the person who helped him. I didn't think Sophie had anything to do with Samantha. I believed her parents that she was out of the country.
I thought that Sophie was hiding from the cult. Myles wanted to warn her that Samantha was dead. He didn't want Sophie to be the next casualty. I was actually surprised to learn that she had followed her sister into the cult and was thought to still be there.
Looking back at my original answer I was quite a bit off base at this point. The phone call must have been to Drummond although at this stage I don't think he had been revealed. And their other daughter Sophie was involved just not in the way I had thought. When it is revealed who is the murder the parents can take some cold comfort that they were trying to do the best thing for their daughters.
I didn’t know what to make of that phone call. It was too outrageous to believe Myles had anything to do with Samantha’s death so I was clueless. But I did think he was protecting Sophie in some way, maybe because she had something to do with her sisters death.
It was kind of a build up by the author. Each time we read something said about her, there was a little more suspicion surrounding it. I thought this was a great technique used by Angela Marsons to get us more an more interested in what was going on with Sophie.
