Very excited! I have The Past is Red loaded on my library audio app for the morning. I can only find one spot for it at the moment but I suspect I will find more spots for it as I read. I see the spreadsheet for planning is read only. Will Emily change that in the morning or do we have to send a request to edit?
Hello friends! So excited!I was reading The Stand but decided to out it in hold until the read-a-thon is done, since I have 1000 pages left and would be all I was reading!
I have one nonfiction I am reading that I should finish this week (over 100 pages left!) and I also downloaded a few books. I am still trying to finish my ATY yearly challenge, so I want to read books that count for that as well.
I forgot to change the settings on the spreadsheet. You should be able to edit them as a group now. Sorry about that!

We do need a long book....😉 but read what you want. I have a stack of short books from the library, mostly nonfic so I'll have to look at where they'll go. Plus I have 1 day left before the library takes Rule of Wolves away from me, so that is my plan for tomorrow.
Hello group! I'm unfortunately working during the day today so won't be able to check in until this evening. I'm currently reading 3 different books (one ebook, one physical and one audio book). Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter, Exit Startegy by Martha Wells, and Evvie Drake Starts Over. I'm on the app at the moment so I will add them to the spreadsheet when I get home from work !
Hi team! I have a whole stack of books from the library so we'll see what I manage to get through!
Emily, would you please list the team members across the top for spreadsheet for tracking number of pages and hours read? I tried to add them but can't seem to enter anything at the top of the column.
I'm going to try and knock out Winter's Bone today. It's a short book. I had started Such a Fun Age this week but it doesn't look like it counts for much for the prompts. Has anyone read it to see if I'm missing something? I also have the next murderbot book - Rogue Protocol which is also short. I'll see what that can count for.I'm excited to knock out some books!
Hi everyone! This is my first read-a-thon. Very excited! Hope I do this right.I've also put aside my big book, Written in My Own Heart's Blood, for this.
I'm reading At Bertram's Hotel: A Miss Marple Mystery which happens to have a green cover, and listening to Ghost which happens to have a yellow cover.
I've finished How the Light Gets In and used it for "a book with a source of light on the cover." I marked it complete on the Planning sheet and the Completed sheet. Do we want to mark the Planning sheet in some ways so we know a prompt has been completed? By color maybe?
It seems we can kill multiples of the same monster, except the Sphinx. We should probably mark prompts as complete on the planning sheet, but I am not sure how to differentiate between the first and second of the same monster. It appears we need a book set in Egypt for our Sphinx. Anyone have a possibility?
I only have 25 pages left on Tactics. Should finish it today.
Edit to add: The Alchemist is partially set in Egypt apparently and is on my TBR list. Does anyone know if it is a quick read?
I finished Cruel Fate and I used it for a book set in a rural town. I also switched the prompts that had been filled to a light green colour.
I have A Master of Djinn on my TBR (it takes place in Cairo) if no one else has anything for Egypt!does anyone have any ideas for animal print on the cover? would the actual animal count (snake for snakeskin, etc)?

I was actually thinking I didn't have anything for Egypt - but I have A Master of Djinn sitting on my shelf too. 😋
I finished two books today: Lumberjanes vol 14 (which is unfortunately too short to qualify as its a graphic novel, but I added it to the page count), and Dearly, a poetry collection that is long enough. I always like to start out with something short so I feel like I've finished something. Not sure what I'm going to tackle next.
I have only 21 hours until the library takes Rule of Wolves away from me. I'm going to read as much as I can tonight, but if I'll have to go back on the wait list and I won't be able to count it after all.
I finished Tactics and put it under Boack and white for wraith as it was the only one. It also works for Norbert in dragon, but there were several options for that.
I finished Kings in Disguise and put it for "light source on the cover" and moved How the Light Gets In to "protagonist who solves problems." I changed it on the "Completed" sheet also. We can work on multiples of most monsters, so how will we keep track on the spreadsheet. The first monster is marked with the light green. Do we need multiple lines so we can see if a second monster is started?
For the last read-a-thon, my team used one colour for completed once, another for completed twice and so on. I was going to suggest blue for the next colour but I figured we had a it of time.
I am hoping to finish Rule of Wolves in the next couple of hours, and the book is almost 600 pages so I will use it for the ogre when I finish.
I finished the Absolutely True Diary of a part time Indian and put it under character with a pet for Sphinx.
Kendra wrote: "For the last read-a-thon, my team used one colour for completed once, another for completed twice and so on. I was going to suggest blue for the next colour but I figured we had a it of time."Blue for the next color sounds good, Kendra.
I completed Winter's Bone. I'm going to mark it for a book with a girl with long hair on the cover. If someone wants to change it that is fine by me.
So with that we killed a Banshee - Let me know if it need to be changed but I updated the worksheet.Figuring out what to read next.
I finished At Bertram's Hotel: A Miss Marple Mystery. There wasn't any blank prompts it could fulfill, so I started a second "Ogre" as that is the highest points that works. I can move if needed.
Did we ever decide what animal print covers? Is it just leopard print shirts and the like, or can it be a real animal? I'm looking at this one: Phoenix Overture which has the faded image of a phoenix on the man's face. There's also this one: Goosefeather's Curse with a tabby cat on the cover.
Thoughts?
**Edit: I found Bestiary, which definitely fits but I'm not sure I actually want to read it lol
Looks like we are closing in on a few monsters! As far as animal print- I think we can make a case for an animal, leapard print shirts, any kind of animal print design on the cover, or an animal foot print. If you think it works, usually it counts! If we can't find anything, we can rework the already completed prompts for that monster.
I took a day off today, so I'm going to spend a bit of time this morning just reading!
I should finish both Exit Strategy and Ocean at the End of the Lane tonight which can work for both "A Paranormal Book" and "A title that starts with a letter found in the word OGRE" to finish of those two monsters!

I decided to go with Bestiary just for clarity :)
°~Amy~° wrote: "Did we ever decide what animal print covers? Is it just leopard print shirts and the like, or can it be a real animal? I finished Get a Life, Chloe Brown and I put in for a title that starts with OGRE, so that kills an Ogre for us.
Don't forget when entering your completed books into the spreadsheet to add them to the completed page, as well as the page for each monster.
I finished The Magic Fish and I used it for the mythical creature prompt (A mermaid). But given the cover has the mermaid on it, do you think that counts as the animal print (fish scales) cuz I can move it if it works better for that.Edit: Never mind. On the FAQ page it says that animals don't count for the animal print.
Kendra wrote: "Don't forget when entering your completed books into the spreadsheet to add them to the completed page, as well as the page for each monster."Sorry, I didn't see that tab. Thank you for adding my info for me.
Finished Mystery of the Tolling Bell . Put in in Banshee - cover character with long hair. It fit for a couple of sphinx prompts that had already been covered.
I finished Cut and Run and put it under Banshee, because it killed one. It would also work for over 500 pages.

You haven't been the only one missing all the different tabs to update, but no worries.

This week, you will read books that will help you slay these monsters. There are a wide variety of monsters, each with different weaknesses, so make sure you are slaying the most you can to accrue points and win favor from the queen!
How It Works:
Read books to fulfill the prompts and slay monsters. When each monster is slayed, you will earn that monster's badge and points. You can attack multiple monsters at a time, and you can slay multiples of the same monster (except for the elusive sphinx!). You can also log your pages to attack those pesky harpies. Your battle strategy is up to you!

Each tab will help you track the monsters you slay. Use the tabs to fill in books, pages read, and audio hours listened that you have already completed. Use the planning tab to track books-in-progress and hopeful books. Your queen (me!) will be watching those spreadsheets to see when you've successfully vanquished the monsters.
