Main character hears voices

There's a narrator that tells the main character about certain parts of his life. He grows up a genius and knows the world will end. He forsakes having a relationship and goes about saving the world. The narrator offers the main character a chance to live life again and the main character chooses a humble life to fall in love in, knowing the world will end and he can't do anything about it
