Jake Howard | 3 comments Help please! I have no idea what the title or who the author is. I have a vague recollection of it being about magic breaking through a science experiment, and the magic is uncontrolled. I think. It is a bit dark, there's themes of survival, society has kind of collapsed, people are transformed into all kinds of things, it might seem a bit cliche but it was very different from anything similar I've read. It was probably close to 10-12 years ago that I read it. I think there was a "portal" or fountain of magic or something and people were trying to close it. It was part of a series and I only read the first one because life happened.

beichst | 171 comments Possibly the Magic Time Series from 2001? Points that match:

magic breaking through a science experiment, and the magic is uncontrolled.

> Match. Lab in South Dakota unleashes magic.

I think. It is a bit dark, there's themes of survival, society has kind of collapsed,

> Match.

people are transformed into all kinds of things,

> Match. "Suddenly packs of pale crouched figures are stalking the darkened subways, monsters prowl Times Square, and the people all around Cal are ... changing"

It was probably close to 10-12 years ago that I read it.

> Match. was from 2001 for first novel in trilogy

I think there was a "portal" or fountain of magic or something and people were trying to close it. It was part of a series

>Partial match. Was part of trilogy. Don't remember off hand if it was actually a portal that caused issue or just an unleashing of magic.

Jake Howard | 3 comments It was an adult book. I can't remember anything except for some scenes (that are very difficult to describe) and part of the theme. I stopped reading it part of the way through when I realized that it was part of a trilogy/series. I can't stand waiting for books to come out so I usually only start a series when I have every book available.

Jake Howard | 3 comments Brad, thank you, that sounds like it might be it. if it's not, it was something very similar. I'll get a copy and find out! Question is do I put this as solved?

beichst | 171 comments @Jack. Great to hear this might be it! If you think you will be able to get a copy relatively quick so you can check I might suggest you simply leave open for now. If is is the book, leaving it open a little longer is not going to hurt.

More importantly, f this is not the book you won't have to change the status back and others will be more likely to continue to make suggestions which might be correct.

Just my .02.

Good luck.

Thanks for asking. Let's keep your request in the "Unsolved" folder for now. When you're sure you've found the book, we'll move this thread to a Solved folder.
