Thanks for asking for other recommendations in your post about the current poll which I just voted in.

I don't have a book recommendation right now but I wanted to post about a movie recommendation.

I recently watched the movie "CODA" which is about a "Child of Deaf Adults," a girl town between helping her deaf parents and deaf brother with their fishing business and following her own dreams of singing. It just came out on Apple TV+ a couple weeks ago (also in limited theaters too). I always love indie movies but this is my favorite movie of the year so far. It is just so superb. It's funny and heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. And the three deaf characters are all played by deaf actors (including Marlee Matlin) which is cool. I also read an article where the main actress (the "child of deaf adults") spent months and months learning how to speak sign language fluently. Anyway, I just have been telling people to watch this movie lately because I loved it so much!

Do you have any recommendations? Movies or books?

Hi Colton,

I don't have Apple TV+, sadly, to watch "CODA" I will be on the lookout for it and see if I can find it somewhere else. Marlee Matlin is wonderful to watch. I'm always happy to see more movies being made that incorporate American Sign Language and actors. I always have the memory of her signing her acceptance speech when she won the Academy award for "Children of a Lesser God" another great movie.

I finished watching the "LOKI" series, first season on Disney. I enjoyed that very much. Tom Hiddleston is exceptional as always. He is a great actor and I think he has a unique, special voice. I am currently watching the DC Comics "Titans" series, first season on TNT. There are additional seasons on HBO, which I hope to watch eventually. The show focuses on Dick Grayson (Robin) who involves himself with young superheroes who try to find their place in the world that doesn't understand their special powers as they struggle to figure out how to handle it all. I like the storylines and the settings they use. It is dark, but enjoyable. A nice reminder of reading the comic books of past.

Thanks for voting in the poll!

Have a good day.

Colton CW (neuroticcat) | 71 comments Hi Donna,

I have unfortunately not seen Children of a Lesser God. However I have seen her Oscar acceptance speech (I'm an Oscars nerd). I agree it is an all-timer! If I remember correctly I think even the interpreter starts to choke up a little as he interprets her signing.

And thanks for the recommendations! I have not seen either of those shows but I will have to try to watch. I've especially heard a ton of great things about Loki, I just haven't watched it yet regrettably! But I will have to watch it soon!

Hi Colton,

There is plenty to watch, many great things to choose from. Lookout for Tom Hiddleston in The Essex Serpent with Claire Danes. I'm really excited to see that when it is available. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read the book in book club before seeing the movie/mini-series.

Have a great weekend.

Deborah | 11 comments Hey, thanks for the recommendation, our son just installed appletv for us, so I am glad to have something to watch this weekend....I just finished a series on Amazon Prime called Kims Convenience. It was 5 seasons, about 60 episodes about a Korean Family in Canada...fabulous, I was so sorry to see it end. Loved all the little Korean endearments we learned. And am finishing reading the new Julia Alvarez book Afterlife. She is sometimes a little too lyrical for me, thanks to Amy I have been looking at some of her poetry and I have loved what I have read so far....but the novel feels overwritten in a way. While I rarely comment on our blog, I do love reading what everyone is watching and reading. deborah
