The school teacher was the main character, I'm fairly sure she was female, and it was a novel!

Usually children's novels are told from the point of view of kids.

It could be the case- my memory of it is imperfect- but I thoroughly remember the schoolteacher playing a big speaking role in these letters

Yes, the mobile app doesn't let you edit your header or comments.

I'd suggest switching to a mobile browser (Google Chrome, Safari, etc.). Then scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Desktop version".
