Can't remember too much, and scared multiple stories maybe getting blurred in my memory but....

Involved at least two main characters, the protagonist and then a group leader who I believe was called Salem (or some other name which was odd). There may have been a concept of having to complete daring things to stay in the group (not sure), but the one specific scene I remember involved what I believe to be a warehouse, and Salem encouraging the protagonist to jump across this gap.
Now I can't remember what happens, whether they do or if Salem goes to take the jump instead (and may fall and die), I wouldn't consider any of this spoiler as I honestly can't remember, hence wanting to find the book.

Thanks for your help, in advance :)

P.S. The one suggestion I've been given which is close is "The Knife that Killed me" - but I don't believe it is this, and I can't find a full plot to know whether it has a similar scene.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5545 comments Here's the Google Books preview for The Knife That Killed Me, in case that helps you rule it out definitively:
https://www.google.co.uk/books/editio...
(You can search for keywords e.g. 'gap', 'jump', 'warehouse' etc. to try to find that scene, or read the first few chapters and see if it's familiar.)

The Knife That Killed Me is by a British author and set in the UK - do you think the book you're looking for was British too? And was the protagonist male?

Gregory | 3 comments Thanks for providing that, I'll take a look.

Honestly I can't say for sure. I have a feeling the protagonist was female and she was trying to impress the Salem guy, because she found him attractive. But I maybe just falling into a trope, rather than remembering there.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5545 comments Could it be Tribes by Cathy MacPhail? The gang leader is called Salom, and the initiation / test to get into the gang is the 'walk of death' across a narrow beam in an abandoned building. Here's the Google Books preview: https://www.google.co.uk/books/editio...

Gregory | 3 comments @Becca Apologies I realise this is 4 months on now.. I completely gave up on pursuing this thinking it was a lost cause. Today I woke up and thought it still annoyed me that I didn't know what it was (and thus me remembering to check here).

Well what can I say.. to my surprise you're absolutely amazing! IT WAS TRIBES! I have no idea how you got to that from my description but i'm so grateful. Thank you so much and again, I'm so sorry I didn't reply sooner.
