Deedee | 2279 comments Do we count the letters in "Jr."? For example, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. -- 12 letters or 14 letters?
And, to generalize, other titles (like "III" or "Dr.")

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Yes, all those letters in the published name, so Jr. and III would count. (If you find a Dr., let me know, as in general titles are against GR policy, but there are some exceptions.)

Mary | 1398 comments How many letters are in this author’s name? One record uses initials and one spells out the whole name.

Vignettes from Finland: Or Twelve Months in Strawberry Land by A M C Clive-Bayley

Vignette from Finland: Or, Twelve Months in Strawberryland by Annie Margaret Clive Bayley

I am planning on reading a copy from the Internet Archive
https://archive.org/details/vignettef...

There also seems to be a copyright issue.

Thanks for the help.

Valerie Brown | 3263 comments I feel like I ask this every time there is a task like this..... so, sorry! :)

I am assuming that female authors who use a male pseudonym count as female. ??

Ugh. Numerous formats of her name, but I have merged all editions into [author:Annie Margaret Clive Bayley
, so she'll work for 15.10.

Yes. So Robert Galbraith is female, no matter what it looks like. ;-)

Author profiles that are really two authors will be designated male, unless both authors are female.

What is the copyright issue?

Thanks for the author merge!

Both the books Vignette from Finland: Or, Twelve Months in Strawberryland have a listed copyright of 2015. The book was written in 1895 according to the copy right page here

https://archive.org/details/vignettef...

I appreciate all the help!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Got it! Changed original pub date to 1895.

Thank you! Sorry I wasn’t clear the first time!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Not to worry, we got it fixed.

Rebekah (bekalynn) Can they be read in no particular order?

Never mind. I got the bright idea to check the Task Overview. 😊

Rosemary | 4275 comments English Climate: Wartime Stories by Sylvia Townsend Warner was first published as a collection in 2020, but she died in 1978 and the description says these stories date from 1940-1946, so will that count for pre-1996?

Yes, I will fix the GR original pub date.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5271 comments I am looking at The Discomfort of Evening by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld for the 20+ letter task. They use they/them pronouns and I am going for the female authors bonus, so would this book count or not?

I entered that author as female. So even if we're both wrong (!), it will count for that bonus.
