I don't type anything and wait for them to respond again. Then I feel bad and force myself to respond with something that, while it makes sense, looks like something I put to fill up space, which it kinda is.

I'd say "lol", "hehe", "nice", or "cool". The first two are when someone says something that's supposedly funny, but I forgot to laugh so I send that to be nice. The last two are when I'm not really listening, but I don't want them to know that ;)

Depends what the other person says. If they tell me something that I just don't know how to react to I'll just say "idek what to say to that" but if it's guy friend using small talk as per usual I'll just say cool

I just don't say anything. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. In this case, if you have nothing to say just don't say it. When I learned about writing letters in school, it says you should never say I have nothing to say now so I guess I'll stop writing or something else like that. So.

Say nothing if you don't have anything to say! Respect others and don't just use fillers!
