Apollo (mean-old-man) Feel free to tell us your preferred name, pronouns, favorite books, and genres!

Because this group is listed as "public" please avoid giving away any personal details that could put you and others at risk!

message 2: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (femlich) I'm not new, but I'll intoduce myself anyway lmao. Hi, my name is Andrea (obviously) and I'm just a queer 20 something who reads too many books at once. I use she/her pronouns, but they/them is fine too. I'm from Michigan and am attending GVSU to work toward a b.a. in English this autumn.

Although I love a good memoir, I tend to lean more toward the fantastical when it comes to books. Fantasy, magical realism, and mythological retellings are among my favorite genres. I also have a thing for classic literature, which is mostly to spite my old high school teachers who tried their best to ruin them for me. I occasionally will read horror, poetry, YA, middlegrade, and romance as well. Extra points go to LGBTQIA+ and mental health representation! The only genres I tend to stay away from are sci-fi and political/economic.

I'd love to see more of you introduce yourselves!

message 3: by Anaïs (new)

Anaïs (anais_) Hello everyone! I'm new to the group, just joined yesterday :D It's my first time joining a GR group, I'm excited haha.
My name is Anaïs, I'm French and queer. I go by she/her.
I tend to read a lot of thrillers and horror, but I enjoy anything, from classic literature to sci-fi or non fiction! I can't wait to exchange with you all about books :))

Greetings regardless! Good to have you here! PLEASE update me on your progress with your degree, and feel free to post/share your creative writing projects if you have any 👀

Welcome, Anaïs, it is great to have you here with us! What are some of your favorite classics? And do you mostly read French authors? Its great to meet you!

--
As for me, I'm Roman! I am also queer and use he/him and they/them pronouns interchangeably. I have a B.A. in Animation and am currently working on my portfolio.

My favorite genres are Sci-fi, Fantasy, Classics, Greek mythology, and many things in between. I tend to read more fanfiction than books, but i am trying to change that and read more novels! I can't wait to read more with you all :)

message 5: by Kyler (new)

Kyler Dorothy Aleria | 1 comments Hi, I’m not really new I just have never said anything lmao. I’m very socially awkward. My name is Kyler and I am pansexual. My pronouns are usually they/them, but they can change depending on how I am feeling in that moment.

I usually like reading fantasy, horror, and thrillers, but I’m starting to get into poetry. I also usually tend to look for books that have any LGBTQIA+ characters involved or books that deal with characters fight their way through the abuse from others or from themselves they have gone through and mental illness that they have dealt with and getting through them and coming out of it stronger than ever. My two favorite book that I always come back to reading are “The Dangerous Art of Blending In” by Angelo Surmelis and “Girl Last Seen” by Nina Laurin. I’m excited to be here and want to try joining in the conversations more! :)

Hello Kyler! No worries about that! As for your books, have you checked out Last Seen Leaving ? Its a thriller with queer leads! Id check it for potential content warnings, but its very gripping, you might enjoy it!

Blue wrote: "Hi! I’m Blue, I’m 25, I use they/them or occasionally he/him pronouns, I live in D.C. with my wife and my dog and I read a really random range of stuff but generally a lot of sci-fi, fantasy or mag..."

Welcome, Blue! Happy to have you here! You are welcome to recommend any book if you'd like to keep expanding your genres! I wouldn't mind a few poetry recs myself :)

Hello! My favorite classic is probably The Man Who Laughs! I read a lot of English speaking authors, but mostly translated in French haha. Recently I've been trying to read original works in English though, to improve my comprehension and learn vocabulary!

Clapclapclapclap | 14 comments Hey everyone, I joined the group recently. I was kinda awkward about saying anything since this is like the first group I've joined lol. kinda got in a reading slump for a few years but I'm starting to get back into it.

But anyway, I'm Charvi (almost 16), queer and I go by she/her and they/them pronouns.

Currently, my favourite genres I would say greek mythology(The song of Achilles like really just came and served,,,,), more books with lgbtq+ characters, sci-fi (I would definitely recommend checking out The Themis Files trilogy), a little y/a but yeah I'll mostly read anything that interests me.

Glad to be here <3

TSoA was heartbreaking in the best way :') Ill add The Themis Files to my list! If you'd like to recommend specific reads for us to share, please go ahead and post any suggestions here in the suggestions topic, just so we can keep it all organized :)

Welcome! I heard "The Song of Achilles" was really good. Hope you have fun here!

message 13: by William (new)

William Dwiggins | 16 comments Hi Everyone! I just realized I didn't introduce myself properly here yet. I'm 34, gay (he/him). I'm a practicing artist in a slump and write trashy fantasy novels for fun. My favorite genres I would say are modern fantasy, and Ancient religious/occult history. My favorite recent book is "Less" and I am currently reading "A Brief History of Mythology" and "An Encyclopedia of Witchcraft". I'm also mildly obsessed with folklore. Basically I didn't grow up. :)

Hello, William, it is great to meet you! What kind of art do you make?

Im right there with you on not growing up-- acting our age is overrated anyway!

message 15: by William (new)

William Dwiggins | 16 comments Thanks Roman! I do mostly landscape and abstract, with a smattering of figural (and considerable amounts of unpublished doujinshi bits). Not advertising, but if you want to see some of what I do, here is my page...

Hey Roman, thanks for the wish!
And yeah completely agree but again I would let it break me over and over again because it was just that good. it'd been a while since a book made me feel THAT much.
I'm also debating reading the themis files again so if we end up reading it here, I would love to talk about it.

Phèdre (phedre) | 1 comments Hello, everyone!
I'm new! 2021 is almost over but I'd like to join anyway. My nickname here on GR is Phèdre and it's okay to call me that, my pronouns are she/her and I'm Italian but in the last few years most of the things I read are in English. Not sure if I have time to join October's discussion but I'll try to read November's book!

Hope you have lots of fun with us!

message 32: by Liz (new)

Liz | 2 comments Hi, my name is Liz, I'm 23 and use she/her pronouns. I just joined and this is the first group I've joined. I was a big reader as a kid and in middle school but kinda stopped after high school and I've been trying to get back into it. So I wanted to join a group to help me be more consistent instead of finishing a book in 3 days then not picking up another one for like 6 months.

My favorite genres are fantasy and adventure but I also just like fiction in general.

message 33: by Apollo (new)

Apollo (mean-old-man) Hi Liz, welcome to the group. i hope we can help you read more and reach your goals! its great to have you join us :)

message 34: by julia (new)

julia | 2 comments Hi everyone :) This is my very first GR group i join so i have no idea what to write here… so it quickly introduce myself, i’m jools, i’m from germany but i mainly read english literature :) Im also obviously queer and go by she/her! I don’t really have favorite genres, even thought i am really obsessed with greek mythology retelling ( especially Madeline Miller ) and lately very much non-fiction feminism stuff! that’s it about me i guess… i’m very excited to be part of this group!!

message 35: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (femlich) welcome to the group, jools! we hope you enjoy your time here!

message 36: by Apollo (new)

Apollo (mean-old-man) hello Jools, and welcome to the group! weve got plenty of modern mythology lovers here, so you have plenty of people to talk to. i hope you have fun here!! :)

message 37: by Erin (new)

Erin (thereluctantbookworm) | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Erin (she/her), I'm 31, queer, and I'm really excited to try out a group on here. I'm particularly fond of contemporary, romance and horror books especially queer ones! Though tbh I read most genres, haha!

message 38: by Apollo (new)

Apollo (mean-old-man) Hello Erin, and welcome! We are happy to have you here!

we try to read (mostly) queer lit here, but we can go in and out of genres, if you have something that youd like to suggest!

message 39: by Caro (new)

Caro (caroj) | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Caro, I'm a lesbian in college and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I'm trying to get back into reading for fun - right now it seems like the only books I read are for assignments lol. Any queer lit recommendations are more than welcome! I look forward to chatting with you all.

message 40: by Apollo (new)

Apollo (mean-old-man) Hello Caro, and welcome!! youve reminded me that i do need to make some genre classifications in our group's bookshelf, so ill do that now. look out for it soon! (probably within the next hour lol)

we hope you have fun reading with us!

message 41: by H. (new)

H. Brown (hlesbrown) | 1 comments Hi everyone. My name is Les. I'm gay (he/him/his) and write gay-themed books. Happy to be part of an LGBTQ+ group on GoodReads.

message 43: by Ash (new)

Ash (goodreadscomashna_gulati2609) | 2 comments Hi everyone,

I am Ashna. I am a 22 year old, LGBT+ woman of colour pursuing astrophysics. My pronouns are she/her. I read a lot of astrophysics books so that doesn't leave a lot of time for other readings haha. But I am here so I can get to know more like minded people in the world, make more friends, be a little less lonely. :)

Sometimes studying so much can leave a harrowing impact on friendships and relationships in this fast paced world with the next relationship a swipe away, thus, I find myself more with my books than with people.

Would love to connect. Just send me a message anytime :)

message 44: by Apollo (new)

Apollo (mean-old-man) Welcome, Ashna! It is wonderful to have you join us, and i do hope you are able to make friends in this group!

Astrophysics is an incredibly interesting subject, and sounds like it would most definitely take up lots of your time— i commend your pursuit of the subject!

message 45: by Evan (new)

message 46: by Apollo (new)

Apollo (mean-old-man) Welcome, welcome! We hope you find something enjoyable to read with us! :)

message 47: by Ash (new)

Ash Hello! My name is Ashley, you can call me Ash! I'm 24, pansexual, and my pronouns are she/they. I've recently gotten back into reading again and found that i'm gravitating more towards novels with LGBTQ+ representation (I just binge-read the first two volumes of ADSOM lol). My preferred genres are fantasy and horror/thriller. I look forward to talking with/meeting everyone!

message 48: by Ash (new)

Ash (goodreadscomashna_gulati2609) | 2 comments Thank you for the warm welcome Roman. And thank you for your kind words😊

message 49: by Phoenix (new)

Phoenix | 1 comments (I’ve never done this before LOL I hope this is right— but !)

Hi!! I’m Phoenix! I recently got back into reading stuff, and I’m excited to see what I can get into. For a while I was on a big non-fiction / psychology kick, but now I’m really open to any sort of book!!

I’m 23 years old, and I use he/him or they/them pronouns. As of right now I’m a waiter at a little Japanese restaurant in my town while I save up money to spend on books and cosplay (lol). It’s nice to meet you all.

message 50: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (femlich) welcome, welcome! there's basically no wrong way to interact with the group, as we're all pretty chill :) we're glad to have you and hope you enjoy your time here!
