Jackie, around what year did you read this book?
Why did the parents take the kids to this island? Can you tell us more about the parents?
I added some details to the header/ topic title. Feel free to edit it.

I'm afraid I don't have a specific year, I know I read them between 1990 and 2000 but I don't know if that's when they were published.
The parents were employed by the corporation running the island and were also science/engineering types. I don't remember the specific goal of the island beyond general research, or if there even was one.
Thanks for the addition! :D

This was a ~5 book series for young adult audience in a science / mystery vein, they were brought by their parents to a quasi-utopian science island but it turned out wrong - the first sign was an enemy who ran under a low pipe without ducking, leaving behind a black glove with a bulge on the ring finger - he eventually turned out to be the supposed leader of the good side because of a distinctive ruby(?) ring.
One good girl drank coffee intentionally to stunt her growth, to her parents' chagrin, because one good boy she was sweet on was also petite. The good kids used a flatbed scanner even though they had an ADF, because ripping pages out of a book was sacrilegious.
They often suspected the good side leader's aide de camp of espionage, and eventually capture her, but she turned out to be good too and working for the government(?), telling herself "buck up, McGrory!" (this name is probably wrong).
In the end, two kids were tied underneath an imminently launching space rocket, but cut themselves free on dull rocket fins although they bled quite a bit.
Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks! :D
