Turns out, Freddy was Maddox’s initial partner in their covert conspiracy who also made him initially suspicious of Zack. Maddox also didn’t seem to share the same rosy opinion of Joy, offering us the first insight from anyone from the group that she might not be who she seemed. Based on his inquiries into the foundation, the beating from the Ivan Krylov and everything else at the time, do you think Maddox did the right thing by going underground?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Absolutely, If Maddox hadn't gone undercover, he would be dead. Also, it gave him time to get more information and into his DT role.

I love that Freddy was working with Maddox all along. That was a surprise to me.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1801 comments Yes, Freddy's role was a surprise, but a good one. I enjoyed his character very much in book #2.

As to Mad's decision, it was the right one in the moment. None of the PGs had any inkling of what was going on and Mad had to make an immediate decision. I think that if Gabe and Zack hadn't been so angry with him over Sara, he might have been more forthcoming with them.

Also, Mad had a moment of suspicion that Zack might be Sergei (of course, he gave up that idea once he had time to really think about it, but at the time, he didn't know if he could trust him).

In retrospect, it was almost the only thing he could do, especially since Maddox didn’t know if he could trust Zack and he already had misgivings about Joy. And, he didn’t want his friends harmed. At a minimum, it gave him time to operate freely in figuring things out. He had a big target on his back.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Mad had no idea what a big hornets nest he stirred up by investigating Tavia Gordon and the foundation. Could he have handled it differently? Yes, but it would have put everyone he loved in danger.

Lynn (ftbooklover) I think it made for a better story, adding a lot of drama, but I'm not sure if he did the right thing. Freddy's involvement is a perfect plot vehicle.
