Was it definitely set in Australia?
No it wasn’t necessarily Australia - could have been England, but I can probably rule out USA.
Try adding "measles/scarlet fever - fake red ink spots smudge" or something like that to the header. That's a great detail that someone will probably recognize as they're reading through the list of questions. Good Luck!

Could it be the One End Street trilogy by Eve Garnett? In the second book, Further Adventures Of The Family From One End Street, two of the children have measles and are sent to the country to recover; their sister wants to go as well, and paints spots on her face.https://www.fantasticfiction.com/g/ev...

I read this book when I was in primary school, in the 90s, but it has an older vibe to it, like “seven little Australians”.
There’s not one main story or plot, it’s just their life in general and what they get up to.
The only plot point I can remember is that a sickness is going around at one point (measles? Scarlet fever?) and one of the children in this family uses the red ink from the ink pot (so it’s set old enough that they didn’t have Biros) to paint red spots on her face. She’s sent on an errand and gets sweaty and they smudge? Or she goes to the doctor to try and get him to say she’s sick and needs to stay away from school?
I think there were a few children in the family, boys and girls… *maybe* one of them was called Kate?
