Realistic Fiction set in the mountains of India or Nepal, father and two sons, one move to America and makes money (not Jhumpa Lahiri)

I read this book 3-5 years ago, and I believe that it was modern fiction (maybe less than 20 years old). The story is set in the hills of either Nepal or India and a poor father has two sons. I think that they are farmers. One son somehow gets to go to school in America and the other stays and works with the father/farmer.

**Spoilers** The thing that I remember most was the incredibly sad ending that the son had made a lot of money in America and was coming home to bring it to his father (to make him proud, I believe? I think they had a fractured relationship) and on his way up to the fathers house on the top of a hill, a group of marauders steal all of his money and take his fancy clothes and he is literally penniless and nearly naked as he walks into the house at the very final scene. It was so sad.
