I really just love all the different parts to the puzzle, all the different riddles and pieces and clues. I wish I could come up with things like this. And I wish there were more books like it. Still annoyed with the (view spoiler)[love triangle. Still getting people mixed up. I'm not really sure why Toby is so against being found. I'm not really sure why he'd be such a danger to the will -- if he wanted the inheritance, he'd have come forward. And he doesn't HAVE to contest it. So that whole thing is a little confusing (hide spoiler)]

Can I just say how actually sad I am that (view spoiler)[ Toby isn't Avery's father? She says at the end she knows more than ever why Tobias was so interested in her but I'm not entirely sure why still. I don't like the ending of this one as much as the last one, partly because now I really have no idea where she's going to go with this story. It felt like the end. Avery's emancipated. She can write her own will. Disc is gone, heritage confirmed. Secrets unraveled. What's left? I don't know but I think I need to find out. (hide spoiler)]

Started today! I felt kind of meh about book 1 but these are so fast and easy to read that I'm happy to continue the series. If nothing else, it's entertaining.

I started this on the BR date and got about 2 chapters in. I then set it aside through no fault of the book and am now so eager to be back in this world.

First quarter - (view spoiler)[The scenes with Avery at the football game was so sad. She is suffering some serious PTSD and I hope there is a future focus on this, and it doesn't get brushed under the carpet. She needs some help to heal from all that she has suffered through and all that has been thrust upon her. I think it is easy to look at her life, from the outside, and believe she has landed into the dream life her team are trying to make it appear to the media, but this is not the case.

Xander is acting very suspiciously. He is one of my favourite characters but I don't trust him anymore.

Even though this is a reread I don't remember all the details and I am so eager to learn why Toby faked his death and lived on the streets rather than return to his wealthy family. Also, what does Avery have to do with this family, asides from her connections to him? Is he really her father? Is he really adopted? Trying to tie all this together is driving me maddd! Second quarter - (view spoiler)[Being Avery's bodyguard must be exhausting! I actually feel sorry for the guy!

Max isn't my favourite character as there is something about her that bugs me a little. I'm glad for Avery that she arrived though. She needs someone in her corner. I felt so sorry for her when Avery said, after her arrival, that it was Max's Birthday, too. It must be so hard for Max that her best friend is in the middle of so much drama and she is a much needed shoulder to cry on but isn't the centre of Max's universe in the same way that Avery is to her. She forgets something as important as her 18th Birthday, even if only briefly, and her boyfriend's name, previously. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[The Hawethorne brothers have had remarkably less page presence compared to the previous book. I was excited for Avery to venture to True North but also to discover that all four brothers would be in attendance, plus all the girls.

Libby dying her hair brown made me so inexplicably sad :( She has already lost her entire life and can't leave the Hawethorne compound and now she has lost her identity to seem a better role model for Avery in the eyes of the court. It hurts my heart. She is just the sweetest soul! (hide spoiler)]

Fourth Quarter - (view spoiler)[There is still so much to unpack and only one more book in which to do so! Barnes makes me ask ten new questions for every one that is answered. I wish more puzzles had been included in this book and did enjoy book one marginally more than this one, but still thought it a great read. During my first read, my enjoyment was the other way around, which was interesting. Onto book 3! (hide spoiler)]
