It seems like there has been a reset of some settings in Goodreads which means the default of only being able to PM friends has kicked in.

To participate in this group, we need to be able to PM each other to make sure we all have the books we need to read and review. Being 'friends' on here is not a requirement of that.

Please make sure you edit your settings...
Account Settings > Edit my User Profile > Settings > Privacy
Check 'anyone' under 'Who can Send Me Private Messages'
