I went 6 years ago and read this book as prep. Lots of interesting facts and speculations about the indigenous knowledge at the time.It was my late 30's and I may have broken down over painful blisters in the last leg and ridden a donkey up the toughest hill because the altitude was crazy and my friend was a bit sick but well worth it!! You can also just take the train which was lovely! You should still make a plan!
LOL Jen, that ship has sailed for me - I'm 57, overweight and with a bad hip that will hardly take walking a couple of miles, let alone slogging up and down mountains in rocky terrain. All that's left for me is armchair traveling of this sort. No, I'm afraid the only traveling I can do now is to comfortable cities.

Although I found it a bit of a slog at first, that can only be my fault as I was not particularly in the mood to read a travelogue this month, and only pushed through because of Fly the PBT Skies. My only disappointment in this ebook is that the pictures are all in black and white, even the ones taken by the author. I was hoping to see the modern ones in color on my PC. Not sure if it's the same in the hardcover.
