Happy Reading Everybody!

Anybody got any thoughts on this one before we start?
Has anyone read anything similar to this before?
Anybody read anything else by this author previously?

Anybody got any thoughts on this one before we start? The cover does absolutely nothing for me but the synopsis is very intriguing. I don't think it is a title I would have gravitated towards from seeing the cover in a bookstore though. Hopefully this will teach me not to judge a book by the cover :)
Has anyone read anything similar to this before? It sounds like a pretty unique YA Fantasy. I read a few reviews before starting and they all seem to say the same.
Anybody read anything else by this author previously? No. I'd not heard of this book or author before seeing it was a GBR title.
Hi, someone asked me about this, so just to clarify, you can read sequels on this months GBR threads, the rule is this -
* If a GBR has sequels, you may read up to 4 of those on the GBR thread for bonus points. (Novellas of less than 100 pages will not count)

The straw part was horrible. And I loved when he threw the rotten orange at Tom

I do hate how Maria only sees Tom's side and not Matts's.
77.0% "Awww poor Ton ton. I don't like Jorge he is so mean. Matt just can't help it can he? He is too smart for his own good. I like Fidelito and Chacho."

With undertones of vampires, Frankenstein, dragons' hoards, and killing fields, Matt's story turns out to be an inspiring tale of friendship, survival, hope, and transcendence. A must-read for teenage fantasy fans.
At his coming-of-age party, Matteo Alacrán asks El Patrón's bodyguard, "How old am I?...I know I don't have a birthday like humans, but I was born."
"You were harvested," Tam Lin reminds him. "You were grown in that poor cow for nine months and then you were cut out of her."
To most people around him, Matt is not a boy, but a beast. A room full of chicken litter with roaches for friends and old chicken bones for toys is considered good enough for him. But for El Patrón, lord of a country called Opium—a strip of poppy fields lying between the U.S. and what was once called Mexico—Matt is a guarantee of eternal life. El Patrón loves Matt as he loves himself for Matt is himself. They share identical DNA.
