Madeline | 2 comments I read this book at my local library around 4-5 years ago, so it was definitely published before 2017. I believe that the book cover had darker colors, if not a black background, with teenagers standing together like for a family portrait looking at the reader.

These teenagers live together in a large house, but they may not be related by blood. They are each given a different type of power by the female adult/mother figure - I'm not sure exactly if they were all orphans.

One girl wants to be the best in school, so she convinces her counselor/whoever controls her schedule to let her drop her gym class. One of her reasons is because of her physical health. Everyone else in her school has to take the unweighted class, which means her weighted average becomes the highest.

One power a female character has (may be the same character as the one I just mentioned) is to use insects to spy on others. There is one scene where she uses a swarm of moths to spy on others. Yet, things begin to go wrong and she begins to lose control over these insects or herself in some way.

Another male character can go back in time. He steals the poetry of another character every time he goes back in time and writes it "first" so that the true poet never realizes his potential and is depressed over his inability to write. Eventually, the true poet discovers this by seeing a memory of one of these time trips.

Another male character has a humanoid figure as a friend, but this figure is not alive.

Another female character (this may be joined with one of the other female characters) has vials/potions because she wants to control her appearance or become more beautiful.

There is an eerie feeling this book gives, since everything is slightly dark/twisted. In the end, I believe that at least some of these teenagers turn against the mother and escape the house.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, yes, yes! Thank you so much Becca! The thing that bugged me was that I was sure it was part of a series and there was a reference to Pan, so the moment I saw "Another Pan" I knew it had to be it. And the cover fits perfectly. Can't wait to reread it, thank you so much again!
