Hi everyone,

For fans of Bram Stoker's Dracula, bats, vampires or the artwork of Edward Gorey, a collector's edition of this classic vampire novel is coming in October. The illustrations were created by Gorey for the Broadway stage in the 1970s.

I have been a fan of Edward Gorey's work for many years. He was an author as well as an illustrator. While some found his work to be scary and complicated, others found it to be honest and truthful. I found great enjoyment seeing his animations in the 1980s when the opening sequence of PBS' Mystery series displayed his memorable animations. It added a special element to the program I was about to sit down and watch and set the mood quite nicely.

In addition, despite his dark, gloomy ominous illustrations, there was another side to him. He was an advocate for animals and animal welfare was very important to him worldwide. He has helped such organizations as the Tufts Veterinary School, Bat Conservation International, Animal Rescue League of Boston, Xerces Society, Carrie A Seaman Animal Shelter, The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Massachusetts S.P.C.A. Angell, National Marine Life Center, The New England Society for Abandoned Animals, Pet Partners in Fall River, Wild Care in Eastham, MA, Wildlife Rescue & rehabilitation in TX.

Were you a fan of Edward Gorey? What did you think of his work?

Have a good day.

Sincerely,

-Donna
