message 24: by Jon (new)

Jon Cocks | 6 comments Hi, my name is Jon Cocks. I have been a long-time fan of historical fiction ever since I began reading and found the definitive Robin Hood, by Henry Gilbert (published 1913, I think) as a 7 y.o. boy, nearly six decades ago. A little older and I read all my dad's Dennis Wheatley potboilers, set in the Napoleonic era and during WW2. In the past 20 years I have enjoyed all of Ken Follett's epic trilogies. I also discovered the prolific alternative historic story-teller Harry Turtledove, as he reimagined a US civil war in which the south won, and imagined what might have happened in 1941 when aliens invade earth. I have become a novelist myself. Is here an appropriate place to rabbit on about my novel?

Welcome! Feel free to share a short summery and link to your novel here!

message 26: by Jon (new)

Jon Cocks | 6 comments Are you moved to speak out against #injustices?

See my #HistoricalFiction #AngelofAleppo, a Story of the #ArmenianGenocide at its #Amazon link:
https://bit.ly/joncocksANGELOFALEPPO.

Glam Adelaide reviewed it and said: “How can so many of us not know about this? Have you ever read a story you don’t want to know about, when it is a story that everyone should know about?”

#AngelofAleppo is firmly based in fact, not only diving deeply into the reality of #genocide, #war, #cruelty and #refugees, but also exploring what it takes to find the strength to #survive.

Soldiers murder her mother. They force her from the family home.

Anoush must endure a death march through unforgiving desert, as Armenian refugees perish all about her, some of the million-plus whose blood forever stains the hands of the Ottoman Turks and the souls of their descendants.

Anoush survives death marches through Aleppo to the Mesopotamian desert. She learns to nurse in a city overflowing with diseased and starving refugees. She becomes the Angel of Aleppo.

In the years that follow, can she find the will to be the woman her mama raised her to be?

#AngelofAleppo is about losing everything but the healing power of love.

I believe in my novel and its message. I hope that it will find its audience and people will be moved to spread its message.

D.B. Woodling Hi other fellow HF lovers! Whether reading a mystery, fantasy, or contemporary fiction novel, if it doesn't contain elements of historical reference, I usually won't award it 5 stars. So, I guess I've tipped my hand regarding my genre preference!

Hi Matty

Why not get a copy at the link? I am chief marketing officer as well as the writer, by the way. Such is the lot of the self-published author. You can't get it from a bookshop, because I don't have distributuion links with the book chains. So, support your friendly local indie author!

Christopher A. Langston | 1 comments Hi - My name is Chris. I am a historical fiction fan (Flashman, Hornblower, Maturin/Aubrey) but I'm actually posting for my Mom. She has been a life long historical fiction fan (Mary Renault, Bernard Cornwell, Dorothy Dunnett, etc.) and although she is blind now and can't really type, she listens to books on tape and would love to find a zoom/facetime group to discuss historical fiction novels. Does anyone know of such? Would anyone like to join her in a conversation every week or so? Please let me know.

THanks, Chris
