High Fantasy (post 2000s) with one side character being an aspiring girl merchant. Some chapters track her trade deals with her mentor. Spoilers ahead.

I read a high fantasy novel a while back where a girl aspiring to be a merchant threw herself from a cliff top to impress a bunch of islanders she was trying to make a trade deal with. She did it to help her ill mentor. She is not the main character. I can't remember the title for the life of me and have spent hours googling so any help would be much appreciated as I should be writing a paper right now!
