Fantasy-series of short stories that link

Sorry, I can’t remember much. I read it mid 2000s and it was a book set in olden times. It was comprised of a series of shorter stories that link together in the end. I know one of them was set in an apple orchard (I think) and a young girl(?). Potentially on the cover there was a snake (not as the centre but side).

I think more towards older teenagers. I was reading above my age and was about 12 the person who gave it to me was 15 ish.
