The Thrill Club is the one you're looking for. Seth is a character in the book, and the use of cassette tapes is important to the plot, but it does not mention it in the blurb. The main character has memory lapses as well.

I first read this book in 2003/2004 and it was im pretty sure a book from either the 80s or 90s. This will have spoilers as the details i remember are key details of the plot.
We follow a teenage highschool girl who begins having memory lapses after listening to some cassette tapes with her friends. Some death occur and there is one specific scene i remember that really stuck with me. It was when the main heroine noticed a drop of blood on her sweater cuff and doesnt remember how it got there but dismisses it as a result of a nose blled even though she isnt fully convinced. Then later that day we find out that her friend was murdered and she and the rest of the gang try to figure out what happened.
The ending reveals that her bf whose name im pretty sure was seth is the one eho brainwashed her through the tapes to murder the people around her. Im pretty sure it ends with her stabbing him in self defense.
The book cover was one of the classic painted ones with a border outlining the image, from what i remember there were a group of teens huddled on the ground.
