► UNSOLVED: One specific book > book I read as a kid about a kid who finds a blob that turns into a monster-like creature. I think he found it by a shore (lake maybe?) I'm from the U.K & this would have been the early 90s or possibly earlier.

Sonia (lesvampyres) | 1 comments I'm from the U.K and when I was a kid I read a book about a kid (I think it was a boy) who was possibly from Scotland (not sure about that). He finds a 'blob' that he keeps and it changes colours (I remember it flashing blue & red but could be wrong) and is an intelligent being. I think (again not sure) he found it by a shore of a lake or something similar. He might have kept it in a rabbit hutch, but again not sure on the specifics.

He nurtures and feeds it and it eventually gets bigger and bigger and turns into some kind of monster creature whereupon he releases it back into the water. I've tried and tried to Google different descriptions and can't find it at all!

It was definitely a kid's book and I have Scotland stuck in my head as the location but I could be totally wrong. I also remember a lakeshore but, again, I could be totally wrong.

I'm from the U.K and this would have been the early 90s but could have been later or even earlier! I think it was a library book and I don't think it was too old.

It wasn't a Goosebumps book, I'm pretty sure of that or any kind of series.

Can anyone help me as this has had my head in knots!

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5501 comments This made me think of The Water Horse by Dick King-Smith, which definitely has a Scottish setting, but the monster doesn't start off as a glowing blob - a girl and her little brother find a mermaid's purse (a fish egg sac that looks like a square seaweed parcel) on a beach and it hatches a Loch Ness Monster type creature. I'm mentioning it just in case (and this will bump your query to the front page where hopefully more people will see it!)
