I'm looking for this book my partner's mentioned a few times. He read it in the mid 2000s, English language, we live in Australia.

It's set in a large town or city with bazaars that can be accessed by water. You can buy all sorts of things there but this one fruit that can't be found anywhere in the kingdom. The queen or princess wants it but she can't leave, so she sends someone out on a quest to retrieve it for her from a far off place. It's frozen and brought back to her. At one point the fruit is dropped and has a bruise. It takes weeks to months to get the fruit.
