Hi everyone,

I am beginning to think of next year's challenge and was wondering how many historical mysteries you all read per month on average.

Please reply in this thread.
Thanks!
Lauren

Emma | 205 comments Maybe 5? I read about 30 books a month but only about 5 historical mysteries.

Helen (helenfrominyocounty) | 235 comments I read at least 20 books a month -- they are all historical mysteries.

Sandy | 1629 comments We are heavy readers! Based on what I've read for this year's challenge, I average 4 a month.

message 5: by John (new)

John I'm honestly finding 52 books a bit challenging. Previous years haven't been nearly this many required. I read a lot, but not just historical fiction. Next year, if it's more than, say, 35 books total, I'd have think about passing on it.

Kimberly Thorpe | 91 comments The challenge has been hard for me. I have found some new authors because of other people's list. I read about 10 books a month, but not all are historic fiction. I agree with John that 35 a year seems a better number for the challenge.

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 597 comments I'm a slow reader plus I also read historical fiction, contemporary fiction and non fiction. In the historical mystery genre I average 1 to 3 books a month. Even though I know I won't read 52 mysteries this year I've enjoyed the challenge!

I am trying to think of a way for members to suit the amount of reading to their average.

In any case, there is no pressure to complete the challenge. Just have fun :)

The purpose of the prompts is to enjoy broadening reading horizons. There is no pressure to complete the challenge.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think perhaps the next challenge will have levels so people can suit the number of books they can fit in per month.

I read many but not all historical. Maybe 5 historical mysteries per month

Sandy | 1629 comments Lauren, over the years your challenges have introduced me to many authors, setting and time periods I wouldn't have tried otherwise, so thank you.

I only read between 1 to 3 historical mysteries a month. My suggestion for those of us who do not read as much as others is that the challenge have "levels" that you pick to try to achieve. I believe we did this a few years ago where we selected how many countries and regions we were going to try to complete. I started with the lowest level and then, once I completed it, I set my goal as the next level. This allows us all to feel like we are setting a realistic but challenging goal but allows even those most avid readers to feel like it is a challenge. Of course, even if I don't make my goal; I still enjoy participating in the challenge!

Thanks Dawn.

Yes, this is how the 2022 will probably be and that's why I wanted to know how many historical mysteries the members read on average.

Pamela (bibliohound) | 292 comments I usually read about 5 historical mysteries per month.

I really like the challenges in this group and complete as many tasks as I can, I don’t feel I have to complete them all but always enjoy thinking of books to meet the tasks.

Kerri | 148 comments Hi Lauren,

I really enjoy the reading challenge of our group and have never felt that I have to complete them. I just enjoy the opportunity to find new authors and finding books to meet the tasks...even if I don't get a chance to read them. :)

message 18: by Merle (new)

Merle (merletau70) | 172 comments I read a few genres, so all my time isn't devoted to historical mysteries. I've really enjoyed this year's challenge, though. I also have read a few authors and series I hadn't considered before. I like discovering books like this, so I am not too worried about completing the challenge, but enjoying the journey.

@Kerri and Merle,
I am really happy that you are enjoying the journey and finding new authors. It's what the group is all about.

I am still working out the details for next year's challenge taking into consideration everyone's comments here.

Thanks to everyone for your input. It is much appreciated.
