I'm looking for a series I forgot the title of but read about 8 or 7 years ago, or 2013-2014. I remember it's 4 books, and it's about a girl moving to live with a relative on a beach, and it's about her being a "universal" in a magical animal world, but she doesn't know it at first. There are four categories of magical animals: elementals, flying, reptile, and 4 legged, I think. People who know about this world usually have an affinity with 1 of the sections, and specifically one animal. The side male character has an affinity with pegasi. The main female character can speak to all of them because she is the universal. I remember the end of the first book has her talking to a kraken and pacifying it. The antagonist is her opposite but also a universal of some sort. I don't know if I remember anything else but I'm looking for the title of this first book that I read in middle school. I remember creatures like gorgons, griffins, chimera, krakens, pagasi, selkies, dragons, golems, etc.
