Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Much creepier than I was expecting! This had quite a few twists and turns of a thriller- but the looming dark atmosphere, scary vibes, and tension building had me thinking this was crossing into horror territory (similar to Riley Sager or Simone St. James). With that being said, this was a roller coaster of a plotline, semi-predictable, but very fun on the ride.

Abigail is getting married to the rich Bruce Lamb. She goes on her Bachelorette party and sleeps with a stranger. Now, they are on their honeymoon on a remote island in a resort that Bruce has partial ownership of- and the stranger reappears. We get a locked-island mystery, set in a hotel/resort that used to be a campground. She starts noticing things aren't adding up- why are all the guests male, why do the phones only work sometimes, who is telling the truth? Cue campfire horror stories, play 'Every Breath You Take' in the background, and let's get spooky.

I loved the creepy dark atmosphere of the book. The first big TWIST I thought was a little predictable, but then they kept piling on the twists and turns- and it got more and more unbelievable. Like SUPER UNBELIEVABLE. But I had a lot of fun putting together the pieces, figuring out what was red herrings and what was the truth. The climax is super intense, very suspenseful, and horror movie-esque, which I thought was fun. The book had a lot of horror movie references that I didn't understand. Altogether, a nice in-the-middle read resulting in 3 stars.
