Ralph M | 5 comments hey all, ive about given up on this. there was a book, maybe a series, that was hard sci-fi, but a space opera, within id say 10 years. they use the Alcubierre drive very frequently. the opening scene of the 1st book was the main guy, a low ranked fellow, in his fighter ship with sci Alcubierre drive, landing or getting shot down on a planet with these fungal or plant like creatures the twant to get him thru his suit. his suit is adaptive. he's an under dog and eventually rises up thru the ranks, I think in multiple books. I want to re read them, and I cannot remember the author or the name of the book(s). again, all I can reference is the use of the Alcubierre drive. and I think that they throw asteroids at planets (eventually). any help? would be super appreciated.. Hey, Ralph -- you might be interested in this episode of PBS SpaceTime, where Matt O'Dowd goes into detail on recent efforts to get around the Alcubierre drive's negative-energy requirement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk5bx...

Ralph M | 5 comments yes, it is. I'm up to the 4th book. the 1st book was the one I read in paper (I guess when it came out).
the series is sort of wrote and a little lacking in imagination, after the 1st one.
its also sort of like The Helmsman, and every other book where the main character is from a poor land, and has to prove himself, IF HE CAN. etc.
eh, takes up some time at least ;).

how is the book of the month going? how do I see those posts?
