T.K. Arispe (tkarispe) I thought a topic like this might be useful to have--basically it's a place where you can ask for beta readers (and where people who want to beta read can come looking for a manuscript).

When requesting beta readers, it might be helpful to state the following about your manuscript so beta readers can make an informed decision:

- Genre(s)
- Age group
- State of completion
- Short blurb about the plot
- What you want from your beta readers (detailed critique, focus on a particular element, tell you what they liked and didn't like, etc.)

T.K. Arispe (tkarispe) And yes, I started this thread because I need beta readers, and thought it might be beneficial to just expand the idea into an ongoing thread that others can benefit from. :)

I'm looking for beta readers for the just-completed first draft of my YA/NA space opera novel Blue Diver!

The first draft is currently 64,000 words long and is pretty much complete (I tend to write extensive outlines and then put out relatively cohesive first drafts). However, before I send it off to the editor, I'd love some extra sets of eyes to let me know if anything really isn't working and needs a rehaul (glaring plot holes, annoying characters, grievous technical errors, etc.).

You can give me as much or as little feedback as you'd like--even just saying you liked it helps me a lot (because when I write a new book I'm always seized by this sudden dread like "oh no what if everything I just wrote is actually completely terrible"). :)

About the plot: In the year 2081, test pilot reject Auva Cameron gets caught up in a warp entanglement accident that drops her onto a space pirate ship in the middle of the Andromeda Galaxy. They promptly get arrested by the Galactic Police, but Auva barters for their freedom by convincing the government to send her, the pirate crew, and one disgruntled police officer to investigate the strange outbreak of warp errors that has been plaguing the galaxy recently. Their mission leads to some unsettling discoveries about the cause of the warp errors--can the crew of the Sledgehammer make things right while dealing with extragalactic invaders, the police officer's mysterious past, and other, less-altruistic pirate gangs?

Blue Diver is a geeky, lighthearted space opera adventure about fast-paced giant robot battles, the importance of perseverance in the face of failure and rejection, and the healing power of friendship.
