A dangerous truth revealed....

A prominent member of the DC community has been murdered, pulling Lieutenant Sam Holland into yet another high-stakes homicide investigation that has her trying to connect the dots between a dead woman and the friends and family who’d turned against her right before her untimely death.

When both the FBI and IRS show up at MPD headquarters with new information, the case takes a turn no one could’ve seen coming — not even Sam.

With numerous scandals still fresh within the department’s ranks, Sam finds herself being called into the US Attorney’s office, where she’s confronted with an interesting — and disturbing — request that will continue the department’s reckoning with the past well into the future.

All the while, Sam’s husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano, faces mounting pressure to declare his intention to run for president in the coming election, leaving the second couple feeling the strain at home — and on the job as the family endures the first holidays without their beloved patriarch, Skip Holland.

As always, when things become too hot to handle on the job, Sam and Nick turn to each other for solace in the storm.

No worries! I discuss anytime someone joins in.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 101 comments I didn't realize you had them all on here. As soon as I get to the next one, I'll come back to discuss.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments Did you hear Marie Force put the Fatal series on KU? I just received an email. I'll get caught up now.

Beginning July 1, she got control from the publisher.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 101 comments This is fantastic!

Jo Ann (jojog) | 72 comments How did I miss this book series discussion??!! I've read them all and will be jumping in. And great news about the books being on KU!

Jo Ann, it wasn’t until Goodreads fixed the folder limit that this older discussion could be displayed. That’s another unexpected (but great!) outcome from that change.

This is now a spoiler zone. Feel free to discuss the book openly.

Somehow I knew that Nick wasn’t going to get out of becoming President. I actually was glad it happened this way. Now he gets to have a taste of the job to really decide if it’s something he’d like to do. Nelson never gave him a chance to be part of a White House administration.

Not sure if Gonzo’s decision could happen in real life but I was glad he chose this direction and that he and Christina are on firmer footing.

I LOVED that grief counseling group. There’s so much Force can do with that and I hope she takes the time to research it well.

I’m still waiting for Sam to grow up more. It’s unrealistic to me that she could travel around the district without security. I’m not even sure she can continue to be out in the field anymore.

Jo Ann (jojog) | 72 comments Agree with all your comments, Jonetta.

I am also really curious to see how Force develops the grief counseling series. Will be a delicate balance of loss and new beginnings - better get my tissues ready!

Sam...sigh...I think her attitude is supposed to seem badass but I read her as selfish and immature. Nick is a saint for putting up with her.

I know! I find her incredibly annoying as written. At times, it feels like Force is trying to make her be like a present day Eve Dallas. But Eve isn’t smug and selfish as Sam seems. Eve always has a basis for her point of view and Sam’s comes across as childish. I see this complaint from many reviewers and keep hoping the author will “hear” us.

I agree with you. I often felt that Force tried to make Sam like Eve, but falls short. Even when Eve is a b**** her heart always shows through. Sam not so much.

Perfectly stated, Sharon. Eve is much more authentic.
