YA Fantasy series, first book; probably a Medieval setting. Female lead's nose was broken while she was in captivity, but rather than fix it she wanted to leave it crooked. Also, her head is shaved at some point in the book. Read 2006-2010.

It was probably aimed at teens because it was in my middle school library and the librarian was really careful about getting us age appropriate books. Plus, I don't remember there being anything in it that seemed too adult for me.

I believe the main character of this book was from a well off or important family. She is either in her late teens or early twenties. She is captured and sold as a slave to a different family (she may have purposely been caught to spy on the enemy or to help someone, maybe.)
I remember a scene where she purposely throws herself into a crowd of enslaved people who are fighting over food and gets her nose broken. An older woman who is either a medic or a healer tells her that it'll be crooked if she doesn't get it treated, but she wants to leave it like that.
It's possible she was trying to look unappealing.
She has a father who is alive, and she cares about a lot. There was a love interest, but it wasn't a romance. She or her love interest took care of farm animals.
Also, I'm not sure if this is from this book or not, but I'm pretty sure it is: There was a woman with shape-shifting magic who was pregnant. There is a discussion about how her baby is also a shape shifter, so she keeps having to change forms to match the baby.
I think the author was a woman, but I'm not sure about that.
That's all I can remember. Thanks in advance for any attempts to help me find this book.
