Frost | 2 comments Every so often I remember that I read this book and it's driving me crazy. I definitely recall that this was set in a world where pretty much everyone played this one video game, which was a virtual reality game that people played in these public cube things. Every time you leveled up in the game, you could get a robotic body part. I recall the protagonist's mother had a robotic finger, which gave her the advantage of being able to click faster.

The protagonist's goal was to get to a high enough level in the game that he could get his heart replaced. There was something wrong with his heart (don't recall what), so he needed a new one. He heard about this competition that was taking place in the game, and I think the winners were given whatever they wanted, so he joined in hopes of getting his new heart.

Spoilers: (view spoiler)

I got this book off of the new-books shelf in the YA section of my library back when I used to read YA, I think between 2013-2017. I'm not certain that I'm recalling the right cover image, but I want to say it was very dark, with a small door open on the left side spilling greenish light across the cover.

Sakuralionheart | 44 comments This sounds like Gamescape: Overworld, the first of the Nova Project series by Emma Trevayne!
