YA WW2 two book series about living in and escaping a ghetto

Looking for a 2 book series i read around 2003/4 about someone being forced into a ww2 ghetto. In the second book they were released or escaped from the ghetto.
Pretty sure the author was female and the title of the second book was something similar to beyond the wall.
Any help is appreciated.

Kelly Rimmer had 2 books but I don't think it was considered a series. One was called The Warsaw Orphan. I think that was the 2nd book. Maybe, they just had the same characters. Both books were good.
