Liam is obsessed with finding the pirate’s treasure but he’s equally fanatical in his resentment of Kane. Was Liam unbalanced or suffering from some type of mental illness? Eden was also irrationally devoted to Liam, supporting him in anything he asked of her. Was it a twin thing or was she also delusional?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Liam seemed to be obsessed with the treasure and with the fact that Kane took the bonds. He said that he and Eden had to work for people that they didn't want to work for since they didn't have the bonds. I'm not even sure what that means. Can anyone clear that up?

I know that no matter what reason Kane could give, Liam wasn't going to listen. Eden seemed like she could see the situation more clearly than Liam, but she still supported him. I felt like she knew it really wasn't Kane's fault, but she would never admit it.

Liam claimed that when the bonds were stolen, they became financially indebted to the Russians they were supposed to repay. Therefore, they had to take on assignments from sketchy clients to make up for the shortfall. Kane found that fishy since both Liam and Eden could have recouped that rather quickly and it’s been six years.

I truly believe there was something wrong with Liam. His obsession was irrational and he really didn’t care about anyone but himself and that treasure. He used Eden.

Now Eden is a different story. Her judgment is highly skewed and she’s been under Liam’s thumb since her parents death. I think over time, now that he’s dead and she has to think on her own, there’s a chance she can be helped. Right now, though, she’s completely messed up but does know the difference between right and wrong.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Liam's obsession with getting the treasure is to prove to Duke, and especially Kane, that he is smart and to thumb his nose at RCK for dumping him. He was definitely unbalanced. Maybe the treasure curse? I don't think he was mentally ill, just really obsessed.

Eden let her whole life become wrapped up in Liam. It wasn't healthy. I can see clinging to him after her parents died, but doing everything he wanted, even betraying the man she loves, was really bad.

I’m on the fence about him being mentally ill. There’s a fine line between obsession and something more deeply rooted.

Thanks for the explanation. It sounds to me that Liam and Eden were already working for some sketchy people when the bonds disappeared. And, I agree that it is fishy that they couldn't recoup the money to pay off their debt in six years.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments Liam was obsessed with the treasure, but I feel like it had more to do with the fact that his father had given him the project. His resentment of Kane is pure hatred. He must have felt seriously betrayed. Some of the hate may have come from family dynamics prior to the casting out and bonds fiasco.
