I'm actually reading the third one right now:

The Unyielding

I read this June 2018, my review, not my favorite of Shelly Laurenston, not sure if it is the God lore as those aren't my favorite or if it was bird shifters. I've read a few really good bird/wing shifter but usually I don't connect as well as to her other characters in Pride series. There was definite laughs and was good. I went to the 2nd and it was good also, just not the 4 or 5 that Laurenston frequently gets from me.

What would you suggest from this author instead?

I liked Pride (9 books) the best but some like Mangus Pack better (3 books) they do overlap and are in the same universe as well as her new series Hot and Badgered, on the Honey Badgers. They are a bit over the top and if you haven't read Pride & Mangus, you would not understand the craziness as well. The Crows definitely have their craziness too but it just didn't work as well for me. It is just good for me. I liked the 2nd better than the first.

I'm thinking of giving Pride a try now.

I hope you like it. It is my type of humor but some don't have the same humor bone. Let me know as I really love the series. She writes under the name G.A. Aiken also and I really loved the first few of that series, ended up liking but not loving most of the rest, the beginning books are the best by far but... some of the later worked too.
