Lynn (ftbooklover) 1. Did you complete and/or get up to date in any series this month?
Up to date
Fugitive Telemetry is the 6th and most recent book in the Murderbot Diaries
Whiteout is the first of two books in the Survival Instincts duology.
2. Did you start any new series? If so, what were they? Will you continue?
Whiteout - book 1 in the Survival Instincts series - will finish
Stillhouse Lake - book 1 in the Stillhouse Lake series - may continue
A Lie for a Lie - book 1 in the All In series - will finish
Dangerous Waters - book 1 in the Barkley Sound duology - will complete
Yes & I Love You - book 1 in the Say Everything duology - planning to read book 2.
Hearts in Darkness - book 1 in the Hearts in Darkness duology - plan on reading book 2
On His Watch - book 0.5 in the Search and Rescue series - plan on finishing that series.
The Night Before- book 1 in the Savannah series but also continues the New Orleans series - plan on finishing both.
3. Did you move forward in any series (that you didn’t complete or finish)? How many? 2
Big Easy Temptation - book 3 Perfect Gentlemen
Dying Truth - book 8 Kim Stone series
4. Any standout or 5 star books read? Why did you love it/them?
Stillhouse Lake was a taught, tense thriller that was almost too intense for me.
Firekeeper's Daughter is an Own Voice YA thriller that could easily be classified as New Adult.
Flight of the Puffin is an amazing MG book that tackles difficult themes but leaves the reader with a feeling of hope.
Repeat is the first book I’ve read written by Kylie Scott, but it won’t be the last.
5. Overall summary of your reading month?
24 books read and 12 were part of a series or duology.

Whiteout (Survival Instincts, #1) by Adriana Anders Fugitive Telemetry (The Murderbot Diaries, #6) by Martha Wells Stillhouse Lake (Stillhouse Lake, #1) by Rachel Caine A Lie for a Lie (All In, #1) by Helena Hunting Dangerous Waters (Barkley Sound, #1) by Toni Anderson Yes & I Love You (Say Everything, #1) by Roni Loren Hearts in Darkness (Hearts in Darkness, #1) by Laura Kaye On His Watch (Search and Rescue, #0.5) by Katie Ruggle The Night Before (Savannah, #1) by Lisa Jackson Big Easy Temptation (The Perfect Gentlemen, #3) by Shayla Black Dying Truth (D.I. Lieke | 1723 comments 1. Did you complete and/or get up to date in any series this month?
No

2. Did you start any new series? If so, what were they? Will you continue?
Yes I listened to Cursed Luck by Kelley Armstrong, and I liked it so I want to continue the series.

3. Did you move forward in any series (that you didn’t complete or finish)? How many?
I moved forward in one series, I read Op De juiste weg by Jill Shalvis, this is book 2 in the Wildstone series.

4. Any standout or 5 star books read? Why did you love it/them?
I enjoyed all three of my books and especially liked that I had a standalone YA fantasy (and not a long series): A Season of Sinister Dreams by Tracy Banghart.

5. Overall summary of your reading month?
Not a lot of books, but both my audiobooks where not the shortest (but not very long) and I read a paper book again so I'm happy with my reading.

It's one of those psychological thrillers where it's difficult to tell who to trust, so when I would get invested in a character, including the protagonist, and then doubt would fall on him or her, it caused a lot of emotional ups and downs. I know lots of people like that kind of story, but I like more of a straight forward mystery. However, I wouldn't have been as engaged in the story as I was if it wasn't extremely well written. Here's a link to my review if you are interested. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

1. Did you complete and/or get up to date in any series this month?
I completed two series:
Carter Island by Cate Beauman
The Lairds Most Likely by Anna Campbell

2. Did you start any new series? If so, what were they? Will you continue?
I started one new series, Savannah by Lisa Jackson, which is a crossover in a group read series. Will be continuing though it was disappointing.

3. Did you move forward in any series (that you didn’t complete or finish)? How many?
I moved forward in four series:
Lucy Kincaid by Allison Brennan
DI Kim Stone by Angela Marsons
Kate Burkholder by Linda Castillo
The Perfect Gentlemen by Shayla Black & Lexi Blake

4. Any standout or 5 star books read? Why did you love it/them?
I had three this month. Fatal Promise surpassed my expectations, which is a high bar for an outstanding series. No More Secrets is the final book in a series I’ve loved and it was everything I wanted it to be. Make Them Pay was 11 hours of almost nonstop listening because I couldn’t make myself put it down.

5. Overall summary of your reading month?
I read 13 books this month and had another great reading month, with the exception of one tiresome book. And, I continue to sprinkle in some wonderful standalones. Felt great about the month.

Laura, I love book discussions so the group reads are a priority. You’d love that Cate Beauman series. I got sucked in and couldn’t escape. If this third book had been released, I’d have read it after my binge read of the first two.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments June Roundup

1. Did you complete and/or get up to date in any series this month?

Up to date:
The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes Mysteries
City of Schemes (Counterfeit Lady #4) by Victoria Thompson

Completed: Callahan & McLain

2. Did you start any new series? If so, what were they? Will you continue?

Started:
Huntress Moon (The Huntress / FBI Thrillers) – I loved it. The premise is not the normal FBI hunt for a killer. I found the series from Jonetta’s review and loved the FBI agent’s name is Roarke. You can’t go wrong with a Roarke in my opinion. I will continue.

The Blackhouse – I found this book for the Mystery Scavenger Hunt challenge. It is a Nordic Noir piece. I didn’t have a clue what to expect. It is a dark story in a dark and dreary environment. A great mystery. I thought there were some unanswered questions, then I found out this was a trilogy. I will continue with the next book.

The Bridgertons – I read the first three with Michelle & Laura. I totally enjoyed the first three books in the series. My plan is to continue with Michelle & Laura. I’m listening to them which helps me read more.

3. Did you move forward in any series (that you didn’t complete or finish)? How many?

Maggie Hope series. I read the second book in the series, Princess Elizabeth’s Spy. I’m enjoying this look at espionage during WWII.

Lincoln Rhymes series. I stopped reading the series a few years ago, but it fit a Mystery Scavenger Hunt requirement. Now that I read this one, I’m going to continue with the next one. The series is so good with complex characters and complex mysteries.

4. Any standout or 5-star books read? Why did you love it/them?

June was a GREAT buddy read month. I enjoyed every book that we read and looking forward to this month’s reads.

Make Them Pay I’m so grateful that Lucy and Sean are back on track. I loved this book, the characters, the relationships, and the storyline.

DI Stone is always good and #9 is no exception. I expected a lot of personal drama after Kev’s death. Fatal Promise didn’t disappoint.

Big Easy Temptation is still a 4-star book for me, but it is so much better than the last book, it gives me hope for the ongoing mystery. I’m looking forward to the next book. I have high hopes for Roman and Gus.

Even though The Night Swim pushed some triggers for me, I don’t regret reading it. I remember when I watched The Accused with Jodie Foster, women’s groups thought that it would help modernize rape laws, especially how the victim is treated in court and in the media. That hasn’t happened yet. This is an excellent look at the system.

My standout books:

Make Them Pay (Lucy Kincaid #12) by Allison Brennan Fatal Promise (D.I. Kim Stone, #9) by Angela Marsons ) Big Easy Temptation (The Perfect Gentlemen, #3) by Shayla Black The Night Swim by Megan Goldin The Cutting Edge (Lincoln Rhyme, #14) by Jeffery Deaver The Blackhouse (Lewis Trilogy, #1) by Peter May

5. Overall summary of your reading month.

June was a good reading month for me. I read twenty books and enjoyed every one of them. I found some new authors and returned to old favorites.

The best part of my reading last month was with my granddaughter. She has a summer reading challenge for school. She asked me to help her find teen e-books and audiobooks which we did on Netgalley. We both enjoyed them although some were more appealing to her, which makes perfect sense. It was fun reading and discussing the books with her. Some of the topics mentioned were homelessness, racism, and abuse. Our discussions were more in depth than I thought they would be. She had some strong opinions and made me proud. She is my face-to-face book club currently. We will continue next month with four or five more books.

Great month Sharon! If you can wait a bit for more Bridgertons, it would be great. I have them on hold at the library so the delay is because of me. Michelle has them from her friend. I really don’t want to buy them. Thoughts?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I'll wait Laura. I like reading with you two. I'm not going to buy them either. They are easily available to me at the Libraries near me. I'll pick them up when you all start.

Great! I have about a 7 week wait book 4 and 10 weeks for the box set 4-5-6.

I almost want to say let wait for the boxset. Shortens the waiting for the next book too and might just help my tbr shelf getting lighter faster. 😉

Good luck with the two little ones. Reading to them will help for sure. I was surprised when Mercedes asked me to help her find books. It looks like her taste are close to mine. Her mother said it was because I was always reading to her even when she didn't understand what I was reading.

Sounds good to me, there is only a few weeks difference between the single book and the box set anyway.

Wonderful reading month, Sharon! Congrats on enjoying so much of what you read and your series progress.

OMG! I remember coming out of the theater after seeing The Accused and being so angry. I ran into a male co-worker and he knew enough to walk away. He came by my office the next day to talk about it. The Night Swim hit me just as hard. I, too, am extremely disappointed in our lack of progress but have hope the #MeToo movement doesn’t lose momentum despite others’ attempts to demean or trivialize it.

I’m loving our book discussions. They broaden my experiences of the books.

Lastly, I got excited when I saw you read Huntress Moon! A group of us started that series on the old Shelfari site and the author participated in our group read. I wish I had the old discussions because much of it was enlightening. The author is a screenwriter, which explains her nimble writing skills.
