book about Pirates and a family treasure called Amber

From what I was told, the book was last republished between 1980 and 1983. It's an old book written by a British female author. The title was Amber and followed the female lead on her quest to find a long lost family treasure. She often dressed as a male pirate captain and sailed here own ship.

She ran into another male pirate of whom she couldn't figure out because his voice/accent kept changing. The funny thing about the treasure upon reaching the end of the book was the fact that it was hidden in plain sight the entire time; which confirmed past science lectures.

I've scoured countless book sites looking for this book can't find this specific book. I'll always encounter the name but the overview of the book never matched up. Tried countless web searches as well but nothing has turned up. Some assistance would be appreciated as I've exhausted my arsenal.
