ABANDONED. 1/2 Horse book I read as a kid

I have two books I read around 2009-2013, that i cannot for the life of me remember the names of. Will post second book as a separate thread.

First one was about a young girl who lived in the woods with her pony. I specifically remember a sequence of them stopping to eat food/having a sort of picnic. I believe she was described as being some sort of cowboy/ranger type?
At some point I believe a side character, young male, turns up. I think the horse was white but uncertain.
