Welcome to the The Song of Achilles Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on July 1st and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Okok. I started reading it today so.

Honestly, I just really dig the atmosphere and the Greek Myth aspect of the whole book. It is just feels so different from everything I have read recently.

Chapter 1-11

(view spoiler)[Very enjoyable so far. Achilles and Patroclus are very cute couple. I love the magic and the vibes. Patroclus is such a great narrator for the story and he and Achilles are very likable.

I don't like the misogyny and how women are treated. It just makes me so painfully aware of how women were treated like shit in the past. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-4:

(view spoiler)[I'm so-so on it so far. It might pick up, but it seems to drag so far.

I completely agree about the way women are treated. They talked about Zeus "ravishing" and "wooing" women and...no. It's rape. They also talked about how raping a daughter was fine but don't you dare say anything to a son and it just makes me feel icky. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 5-8:
(view spoiler)[I was a little worried for a while because the book and I weren't clicking, but I'm starting to enjoy it more now.

While I'm liking it for the most part, what eleven-year-old talks/thinks like Patroclus? All this stuff was definitely too big for my small brain at the time.

What's surprising me the most is that I don't care for Madeline Miller's writing style. It's exactly the kind that I normally enjoy, but for some reason, it just isn't working for me. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 9-12:
(view spoiler)[ I was about to complain about how the book and i weren't really clicking but THAT LAST CHAPTER. All the Deidameia stuff was FANTASTIC. We've risen to daytime TV level drama and I'm completely here for it. And Achilles in a dress. (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book.

I enjoyed Circe much more than this one, but it was good. Glad they skimmed over the battle scenes and not too gory!
