Danielle | 6 comments I am looking for an Australian YA novel that I read at some point between 2003 to 2007. I read it in my school library so I cannot be certain of publication date. There was no specific technology or details mentioned that would give rise to a particular time period. Assumed modern day.

The story is about a teenage girl who keeps getting struck by lightning. She and her mother move to a small rural town where it does not rain so there is a lower risk of storms and lightning. When she gets hit the girl loses all of her recent memories.

Whilst in the small town, she makes friends with her male neighbour, also a teenage boy, and they attempt to save the local forest that is going to be cut down. She is worried about getting hit by lightning again and losing her memories so she is rushing to do this because she never gets to finish anything.

The girl has dreadlocks in the story and is eventually struck by lightning again after having sex with the boy.

She and her mother move away from the small town as she needs medical treatment from the lightning strike. The girl shaves off her dreadlocks because she doesn't remember why she had them in the first place.

She goes to see the boy, who is now in a band, but she doesn't remember their relationship. She was a tomboy when living in the small town but since losing her memories she is glamourous now and boy is especially attracted to her. She asks the boy about the forest and whether it was saved, he tells her he stopped trying after she left.

She is annoyed by this because she was told it was important to her and she wanted to see it through. Can't recall if they save the forest.
