It was a little bit of a drag, but that information was necessary for us to understand what had already happened in their relationship and why they weren't still together.
I like that we got the information from the past and the present. It was important to the story.
It was always a question in the other books: Why did Dax marry someone else when he loved Holland? I can't say I enjoyed this first part of the book. My heart was breaking knowing what had happened to them.
Did I miss something? In the other books, I thought the marriage was a quickie all around. I didn't have a clue that he was married for 3 years.

Sharon, I think he and his friends talked about the marriage as if it ended quickly. It did in terms of him sticking around, less than six months. But he deployed and never returned so she divorced him after two years.
To be honest, I wasn't a fan of the long flashback part of the book. Knowing that they broke up and he married someone else had me waiting for the other shoe to drop for that entire section. Part 2 in the present was much better.
I agree, Lauren. It was painful for me knowing what happened to them.

I didn't realize that they were married for 3 years. I thought they were only married a very short time (few days to few months)
Have to admit, at first I was a bit confused not realizing that this happened in the past. I think it was important we understand the full story. It definitely made me more invested in their relationship.
The time shifts confused me too, but I agree that they laid out their history in a very compelling fashion.
